Character Info:

Full Name: Doctor Robert Bruce Banner
Called By: Bruce
Age: 42
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe (Links: The Incredible Hulk
Avengers)
History: Personal History
Personality:

Bruce is a man torn within from his past. Those who do not know of his past will find him to be a quiet man, reserved, almost to the point of being shy, but steady and calm. Though vastly intelligent, after so many years on the run from the United States government, he has learned well to speak on a plain level with people. There is often a dry sense of self-deprecating humor lurking beneath his words if pushed into certain subjects as it is one of the few ways he has learned to handle the disaster that is 'the Other Guy'. Many times he will often pull back, physically or mentally, to calm himself when a conversation is reaching a peak he knows will lead down a dangerous path.

As a doctor, his caring heart truly shines through. His hands gentle, his voice soft, his knowledge sure, he has treated many people in many countries and witnessed the horrible diseases, atrocities, and cruelness that can come with simply being poor, or where one lives. His guilt for what the Other Guy has wrought, and for what he himself has wrought with his gamma radiation work, urges him to keep protecting people, helping them as both a scientist and doctor.

He enjoys many things, ranging from the scientific to the natural. The yoga and martial arts exercises he uses to calm himself in the morning have become more than a way to calm himself and more of a ritual, a way to center himself. And always a good cup of tea helps. He works hard to keep up with the latest in scientific and medical research, to the point of still submitting research and papers under his alias of David Bixby even while on the run.

On the other hand... there is him. Everything in his life is designed to keep the Other Guy under wraps, to keep people safe from what he believes is a terrible monster. Bruce firmly believes them to be two completely separate people, though like a parent of a child, he takes full responsibility for all the Hulk has gone. To a point. He values his freedom dearly and knows he cannot hope to make up for all he has done if he's trapped in a jail, or in a cage of the Army's making. Keeping that freedom, and staying separated from others for their own safety, has led Bruce to become somewhat isolated in his heart, never letting anyone in too close. Not since her.

The Hulk is the opposite of Bruce in almost all ways. Intensely focused on a single thought at a time, little else will enter his mind beyond what he wants in that moment. Never, ever decide that he is merely stupid or slow - little instances have proven that Bruce Banner's intelligence lies at the back of those dark eyes.

The Hulk will act on what is in his mind and if he so desires, say what Bruce never would. He does rarely speak, but in the Hulk's world, actions definitely speak louder than words. There is a dark, sarcastic humor to the Hulk, yet there is also some definition of caring. Those he cares for, he will protect with everything in him.

He may very well smash those that annoy him. Most things do.

Whether fighting alone, to protect, or with allies, one difficult issue with the Hulk is his single-minded focus and incredible radius of destruction can make for others getting harmed unintentionally - not by his own hands, but falling debris, shrapnel, etc.

3 Interesting Character Facts:
1. Bruce knows many languages including Spanish, Hindi, Latin, a touch of Russian, and touch of sign language. He can pick up new ones quickly.
2. Both Bruce AND the Hulk have a strange weakness for stray animals, cats in particular, and Bruce will go out of his way to make sure to feed any he sees. In fact, the Hulk seems to enjoy animals quite a bit.
3. One of Bruce's most respected doctors happens to be Doctor Hank McCoy for both his research into the X-Gene as well as his fight for mutant rights.

Powers:

The Hulk. Due to his modified genes thanks to his father and the radiation absorbed during the gamma accident while working in the Army, Bruce can turn into the Hulk both at will and against his will. At will seems to produce a more intelligent Hulk that Bruce has the faintest control over and is able to remember pieces of what occurs during his transformed time. Against his will leaves Bruce in a blacked out state, unable to remember anything that occurs. There is nothing of the Bruce people know in this Hulk, which is far angrier, more violent, and more focused.

The Hulk takes almost no damage from known sources and what little damage he does receive heals nearly instantly. He can leap vast distances with ease and his strength is nearly unmatched - in fact, possibly unmatched as the angrier the Hulk gets, the stronger he grows. This strength and healing creates a beast that is a vastly dangerous foe or an incredible protector.

Please note that while any damage done to Bruce before his change will be healed, any damage taken after his change will remain. He himself does not heal like the Hulk.

Special Skills:

Doctor Banner himself is considered an incredible genius, with two doctorates - one in Nuclear Physics and the more recent a medical degree focused on the treatment of diseases and genealogy. He is particularly skilled in the areas of radiation (and even more specifically, gamma radiation), biology, and genealogy.

What is your character's comm icon and why?

the Caduceus symbol set against a green background - the green for his work in radiation, the Caduceus symbol for his work as a doctor.

Character Info:

Full Name: Megamind
Called By: Megamind
Age: 30's.
Canon:
History: Megamind's life is documented in his own worlds in books, exposes, and newclippings. His origins are shrouded mostly in mystery. Sent away from another plant to survive it's destruction, Megamind and his fish Minion crashed as infants in a prison yard, and they just -- kept them. His alternate, however, crashed in the lap of luxury, and when it came time to let the little blue boy out into society, it just happened to be to the school for the gifted that would define both their lives.

It would be there that he figured out he'd never fit in. He'd never be handsome or strong. He'd always be a screw up. So he figured he'd embrace it, and become the best "bad" he could be. From the age of ten till his mid-thirties, Megamind and Metro Man as the other young boy could become known -- would continue to play out a huge game of cops and robbers with a heavy metal soundtrack and massive amounts of property damage in the great metopolis of Metro City.

Megamind went in and out of prison. He set up everything from forgetfullness bombs, kidnapping local news personality Roxanne Ritchi, and generally making himself a public nuisance. It was a never ending cycle; get out of jail, cause mayhem, go back to jail, plot, escape, cause more mayhem, ad nauseum.

However, as all things are meant to: Sometimes destiny intervenes. One great plan -- to trap Metro Man and hit him with the concentrated force of the sun! He had it all in place; Roxanne kidnapped, Metro Man tricked to the wrong location, and despite the long warm up time, he had apparently 'accidentally' found Metro Man's weakness-- copper drains his power. He vaporized the hero, took over the city and... promptly got very, very bored.

Carrying his thoughts to the local Metro Man mueseum -- and planning on blowing the dam thing up -- he gave his good byes to his nemesis, and to quickly dehydrate the curator and local Megamind expert, Bernard, or risk discovery in his evil pyjames and slippers by Roxanne Ritchi. She planted the seed of an idea: That heroes are made, not born. Thus, he could in fact, create his own new rival.

However, as the process began -- Roxanne inadvertantly also screwed it up a bit; while he managed to distill Metro Man's powers from dandruff found on his cape, her investigation of Megamind despite the loss of the heroic backup in the city, and during a struggle where he had to alternate between the pretend-Bernard, and himself, and try and both aid and stop Roxanne. In the chaos, the gun he had loaded with Metro Man's powers were fired, and in the misfire, went through the building and found Hal, Roxanne's bumbling assistant... and imbued him with godlike powers.

Whoops!

Over the next few months, began to alternate through several identies; Megamind went 'quiet' while Bernard continued to 'work' with Roxanne on solving the 'Megamind Mystery' from the lair, and 'space dad' trained Hal to be a hero... missing the fact that he had NO interest in being a hero, really, and just wanted to glory in power.

On the other side of the coin, he was starting to find a reason to be good. Roxanne made him happy, and he found ways to start making her happy. He began to clean up the city, put things he'd stolen back, and generally worked to make hre happy. This didn't go over well with his faithful fish Minion, and they had a fight over the pair's budding relationship, ending with Minion walking out on his master, and Megamind.

Megamind managed to screw up the relationship all on his own, though; Roxanne had discovered the truth about the Titan plan (for Titan had attacked her) and he tried not to think on that when there was plenty to be done instead, like trying to find out if she WOULD care if he wasn't the semi-attractive interllectual she was dating. She assured him that he made her happy, and kissed him to seal the deal... and then accidently activated the diguise watch he wore, revealing him as Megamind himself.

The fight was epic; drinks were thrown. Megamind had tasted love, and now he got his break up, being dumped in the rain by a woman who said she could never love him because cover or no cover, his contents weren't worth bothering with.

He went back to evil-- or at least tried. He waited for Titan to come and get him,b ut the other hero never showed, despite having been given the leave by the 'space dad' identity to go forward with fighting Megamind. So Megamind went to him -- and found hed given up on heroism, having found out that Roxanne Ritchi would never love him either. Megamind mocked him, revealed his deceptions and invited the buttkicking that Roxanne had told him previously that he'd been seeking.

And he got it. Oh, did he get it.

Unfortunately, Titan had no moral compass to speak of. He was small minded and selfish. He was angry, hateful, and was going to not just beat Megamind but kill him. THankfully a failsafe kept him alive-- but revealed that copper was NOT Metro Man's weakness-- or at least, not Titan's. He fled the scene and went to the only person he could trust, the only smart person he knew:

Roxanne Ritchi.

She was less than thrilled to see him. Things were said. Arguements had. But in the end, she came around and since she knew Metro Man best, was the only one who could help Megamind stop Titan from destroying the city. She took him to where the school house, their old stomping grounds,h ad been set, years ago, and underneath was Metro Man's lair.

Also, Metro Man.

He'd faked his death! He had tired of heroing -- he wanted to be MUSIC Man now, despite having no talent, and shut down any thoughts of them getting him to come back and become a hero. Megamind, disheartened, did not think he had any reason to fight, and simply decided to go back to jail, leaving Roxanne behind. He turned himself in, flipped the television stations and... then saw the worst thing he could see.

Titan, with Roxanne in his position, calling him out on live Tv. He'd locked himself up, when he was the only one who could possibly save her. He begged and pleaded with the warden; first with theatrics, and then with meaning. He really did care about Roxanne and his city, and missed Minion who he drove away. HE'd done thme all wrong, all bad, and he was, very truly sorry.

Thankfully, the warden-- revealing himself to be Minion -- accepted him apology and went off with him to formulate a plan. It was two fold. Minion wold save Roxanne with distraciont, while Megamind got Metro Man's form, some gear, and would scare Titan out of the city. It eemed to be working; Minion got Roxanne to safety, and MEgamind chased Titan all over the sky, before finally telling him to get lost... With one fatal error.

He let his accent slip.

Titan came back after the deception was realized, and began to pound the crap out of Megamind. Thankfully, Roxanne was there, and told him to look back, as she had done, te night she'd dumped him. He saw the invisible car... with the defuser ray in the backseat, and managed to angle his beating at the hands of Titan to the car's position. However, before he could use the gun he was thrown into the sky.... and falling to his death, he realized he had one good, old trick.

Plunging down over the city's fountain... he dehyrdated himself and let the watch do it's business once he was in it, rehydrated and popped back up,ready for action, before Titan could hurt Roxanne; his defuser gun was warmed up and ready, and he took back the power that he had accidently given Hal, and saved the day, got the girl, and won the city's respect.

The rest was rebuilding and renewing. Earning forgiveness -- and meaning it, working for the city he had always loved in his strange way, and becoming oe of the Good Guys.

And of course before he can get comfortable in his role, he ends up teleported to the Nexus. What the heck is that, man? His destiny derailed, he can only go forward now in a new city, and hope they WANT him to protect it in his own heavy metal style. Oh, he'll try and play at being the new Metro Man for all of a day, but honestly... he needs to be bad to be good. There's just no way he can be the white-caped wonder and still be himself -- or even be vaguely competent.

Personality:
Take one surprisingly sheltered child with very little 'real world' experience and a lot of comically bad influences. Give him a vast intellect and reduce his social skills to next to zero (but, allow for him to be able to learn them). Pick on him a while, till he decides the only way he can be any good is to be very, very bad. You now have Megamind.

Having grown up in a strange prison for gifted and dangerous men after crash-landing there, he didn't know what windows were or how to enjoy himself in ways that didn't involve mayhem. Super villainy was just a high property damage way to play cops and robbers, and despite that he claims to be evil, he's rather repulsed by 'thuggish' evil; beating up random people, mugging, and especially murder is right out. The hero gets the girl, the villain goes to jail. It's the best thing ever -- when it goes right.

Some of this began to change over the course of the events his canon portrays; he begins to realize that he's not a failure, that he can empathize with people, and that he can even have friends, and do normal things like ride bikes, have dinner with a pretty lady, and not screw it up terribly. Of course, he does EVENTUALLY screw it up, but he does work to rectify it later, too.

He's still socially awkward (and probably always will be), but Megamind learns and changes. He starts to care about a person, and then about a city, and ... the rest really just falls into place naturally. Awkwardly, but naturally. He'll never be suave, really, and he'll always have a certain childlike wonder for several things, and he'll always, always need theatrics to compensate for near-crippling shyness... But that's sort of what makes him endearing. Or annoying, depending on one's tolerance for his antics.

His important relationships are a whole whopping three people; Minion, Metro Man and Roxanne Ritchi. Minion has been with him since his infancy and for a long time it was them against the world. However, he is -- finally, at his mid-thirties-- starting to grow out of needing a nanny and caretaker and wanting to do things on his own, and their relationship is altering accordingly - there's friction where there wasn't, and Minion does not entirely understand the changes that Megamind goes through - he's happy with the status quo so long as he believes Megamind is happy... and if he thinks Megamind will take a path that makes him unhappy, Minion will stand up to him ... sort of. This doesn't always work, as Megamind is technically 'in charge' of their relationship, but by the end of the film, he's realized that he'd be lost without Minion. He'd probably do a lot of crazy things for Minion, if pushed.

Metro Man is his nemesis and inspiration both; he wanted to BE Metro Man very much in his youth, perfect and adored, to make friends easily, and be with the other kids in school. Then he wanted to BEAT him for not being able to BE him, and their rivalry began... and went from school day antics to massive property damage super villain madness, starting from about age ten and going onward for years; almost a quarter of a century has passed with the 'game' being played. But then Metro Man quit-- faking his death, and Megamind was left with the mess he made with Hal; pulling off heroism was all he could do -- now he finally 'was' what Metro Man was -- a hero, and he went back to trying to be him... until that blew up in his face and he accepted that he was Megamind, and he was a reformed villain turning evil on it's ear, turning bad to good, and even succeeding along the way. He's not looked back on his former nemesis since, though he remembers him with strange fondness, even if he doesn't really agree with Metro Man quitting the game.

Roxanne Ritchi is that-- awkward relationship. The crush you know you shouldn't have, and then get an opportunity to explore. He indulges in selfishness with her; kidnapping her, annoying her, using her at the center of EVIL PLOTS, and then, as the coin turns, as she wants the attention of his alter-ego Bernard -- he finds he enjoys a relationship between equals, friends turning toward becoming lovers, much more then his one-sided nuisance. Despite serious pitfalls, she seems to forgive him for being ... well, him. They were on the way to mending their relationship and starting anew on a more honest level. This is an important growth period for Megamind; allowing him to become more fully developed as a person instead of constantly playing a role. Bernard is a mask, but everything that comes from him as he dates Roxanne is real; his fears, his love, his joy. It's the realest he's ever been with another person, and her acceptance of him -- both while he 'pretends' to be Bernard and then afterward, she accepts him as Megamind, after he proves himself.

As it stands, Megamind is a socially stunted shut in with a fear of rejection that overcompensates for crippling shyness by making a huge spectacle so nobody looks right at him in the middle of it, socially awkward and totally uncertain of himself. Without Minion, will not have anyone to fall back on or to trust. This will put him in a vulnerable position and put him on the extreme defensive.

Megamind 2/2

[personal profile] megamind 2013-01-13 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
3 Interesting Character Facts:

1) Megamind has no experience in taking care of himself; oh, he can handle the basics and he's a pro at hygeine (He's a fastidious groomer, or one thing - waxes brows and beard, keeps himself clean, nails and cuticles manicured) but he's never had to clean up after himself or cook a meal. Minion, or a prison official, has always been around to do that for him. He has no idea how to maintain anything that doesnt' have an engine. Make a bed? Pick up after himself? Seriously? He's like a giant teenager in that respect-- genius has it's demands and he has no idea how to handle things like keeping his living space from decending into a sty. His workplace? Yes. His rooms? Not a snowballs' chance in hell.

2) Megamind is musically talented, but it's one of his least used skills beacuse no time to play. He could be quite good; in what passes for his spare time he's picked up guitar (lead, rhythm, and bass), and piano. He doesn't play like a pro -- an enthusiastic, talented amatuer, yes, pro no -- but he loves it all the same. Given time and study he could perfect pretty much anything he picks up (thanks to that big brain and his creative nature) but he's never found the time before to handle that sort of 'hobby' before.

3) Despite racking up damages in the billions, Megamind has never killed anyone. He's caused unintentional harm (which he feels vaguely guilty about) but honestly, despite everything, he really doesn't want to kill anybody except Metro Man, and that's only an abstract 'can I do it' as opposed to 'i really want that guy dead'. The hate for him is real, even if it's faded over the years to a bizarre, grudging respect and frustration that Metro Man got so much while Megamind got nothing, but he's never really wanted to hurt people, really.

Powers: GENIUS INTELLECT; the ability to turn junk yard parts and flashy dials and tesla coils into engines of destruction. No, really. Megamind has no real 'powers' beyond his ability to be Really Smart (in only certain venues; he's socially inept) and use that smart to turn ordinary objects into death traps when called upon. He makes brainbots out of plasma domes, bear traps and erector sets. DE-Rays (good for storing people in careful stasis cubes for months, can be rehydrated with a drop of water and be perfectly fine, if-- essentially having been in a coma all that time, as well as DEtroying, DEmaterizling and other DEaffects...), putting together lasers and death rays, and doing it all out of other people's junk. His laid was one part chop shop, one part mad science, one part alien technology.

He also has a near perfect memory; he is not a human and unlike humans was up and learning how to use a welder when he was a few weeks old. His people mature much more quickly, and are aware and comprehending of the world around them much more quickly. He doesn't 'forget', but he might 'overlook'. An excellent memory does not preclude the occasional attack of absent-mindedness or distraction. There's a big brain up there, and while it's storage is better then a humans, it can still get jumped or confused.

Alien resistances – Megamind isn't human and was never intended to live on an earth-like planet. He doesn't know what the planet he was from was like, but he knows that it's not like earth from his dim memories. He has also been getting pummeled from a Superman equivalent for thirty years and yet to die. He doesn't have true regeneration and he's not invulnerable- but he is much more resilient to harm that a normal human but he recovers more quickly than the average human and he's much less likely to suffer serious injury in the face of massive harm. Drop him twenty stories and he'll still be a splatter like anybody else, but he's less likely to bruise or bleed in combat against the average human – or even above average human.

Special Skills: Megamind is a genius level intellect with a perfect, eidetic memory-- though emotional flavor can alter perception of events, the event itself is not changed. This means he has a wide range of skills available to him because he remembers everything he does, and how he did it. His recall time is not perfect (there's a lot to dig through to remember just how he painted that one brainbot out of thousands of them okay) but his most important skills involve:

Robotics, engineering, computers (and their hacking), showmanship and rock n' roll (especially classic rock, '80s rock; basically if it happened after 1990 he probably doesn't actually acknowledge it exists. He's a music snob. Exceptions are latter AC/DC or Def Leppard albums, things of that nature.)

He also has a functioning knowledge of nuclear engineering, some human-level space-flight knowledge (Shuttles, etc), and genetic bio-engineering. Basically, he's the mad scientist's mad scientist. Why focus on one field when you can have them all!

What is your character's comm icon and why?

I'll make this into a shiny icon when I can... figure out how to get a better cap. However, Megamind uses his stylizied M + Lightening Bolt on everything ever and the comm links are no exception. IT won't have his NAME under it, but the symbol will remain because it's Megamind's. He's not getting a new one anytime soon.

Anything else?: JANTRA MADE ME DO IT.

Writing Samples:

Action Tag Sample:

[The comm turns on; he doesn't turn on video for this because-- well, it's harder to be on television (or any reasonable facsimile there of) when you didn't have something grand in store for the populace. No, this time he just kept the audio on, and tried to sound like a man of gravitas and composure.]

[Instead, he probably sounded like a jerk.]

I was wondering if anyone has made it into the station's computers, or if there were a library, perhaps, of information-- about star systems. After all, we need to figure out where we can go from here. I mean, who wants to sit on some weird dumpy station forever? Also, who knows what other races might be out there amongst the stars, and all.

Anyway, if you have, I'd love to find out what you discovered! If you made any great finds! Like, oh, what system are we in? Where do those streams go to? Have any of the incoming ships gone by the the ruins of the Glaupunkt system, maybe... You know. That kind of thing.

[Yup. That was totally on. He aced that. Satisfied, he ends his message, certain that people would tell him everything he needed to know, so that he could get off this station, and onto a ship pointed to where home had been... and maybe, where survivors might be in outlying systems.]

Third Person Prose Sample:

Space. Staring out into it's black vastness from the observation deck, Megamind was sure he was going to start to monologue at any moment. He wasn't about to go into some terrible riff about boldly going nowhere – no, space held this terrible fascination for Megamind and it struck him to the core. When he had found himself on the observation he didn't leave it for hours. Still, he couldn't find any words to convey the greatness of that moment, and sat for a time in awed silence.

He wondered if he'd passed through these stars, if his little beaten pod had traveled anywhere near here. If the remains of the planet that had seen his birth had been anywhere near this great, yawning gap in space.

The twinkling of stars as the station hung above an alien planet were like distant promises of the possibility of answers. They made Megamind forget that he was not in Metro City, that he was not currently plotting anything nefarious, and just gave him an odd sense of homesickness for a place he had never been, never seen, and could never go.

Finally, he stood up, and marched toward the interior. He would find the station's libraries and find out about the right planet and quadrant, seize control of a ship, and find out if there were any remnant of his people in this universe at all! Screw Metro City! Screw Mr. Goody Two-Shoes and his sniveling groupies. He'd find a place where he belonged out in the stars!

Nothing in this plan, of course, could possibly go wrong.

Character Info:

Full Name: Rubedo
Called By: Gaignun Kukai, Jr.; Jr.
Age: 26ish mentally, 12 physically
Canon: Xenosaga
History: link
Personality: Under normal circumstances, Jr. gives off the impression of an impulsive, passionate, cocky young boy who just so happens to have been given command of an enormous battle cruiser. He adores action movies, collecting old guns, and classic adventure novels, like The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe or Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. And he’s apparently used his love of flashy action movie stunts to inform his own fighting style, which features plenty of trick shots, firing guns akimbo, coin tossing, and flourishes. Similarly, Jr. often gives his A.G.W.S. armored fighting unit rough treatment, forcing his mechanics to constantly repair run-down systems pushed beyond their operating limits. Also: Jr.’s idea of a great way to handle enemy battleships is to “give ‘em a little nudge” – in other words, ram his own cruiser right into them nose first so he can board them personally, guns blazing.

While his behavior may seem impulsive at times, Jr. can also be surprisingly thoughtful, dedicated, and prudent and cautious in protecting his crew. For example, the Durandal’s nose was expressly modified to serve as a battering ram while ensuring that the rest of the ship (in which a sizable complement of civilians make their home) remains undisturbed and structurally sound. And while reckless with his own life, Jr. tells his personnel to avoid taking risks and place their own lives above mission objectives, regularly expressing concern for their safety. Even honing his fighting style to the point where he can reliably ricochet a bullet off a tossed coin and strike a human target is an accomplishment that would have required extensive practice and dedication (regardless of whether his time would have been better spent elsewhere). As the commanding officer of the Durandal, Jr. is required to make decisions that affect his crew at the drop of a hat; if an enemy fleet appears, he’s the one who needs to decide to pull his people back or rush in on the offensive.

In keeping with his concern for his crew, Jr. takes a hands-on approach to his command of the Durandal, so much so that everyone on the ship recognizes him on-sight and speaks with fondness (and also sometimes exasperation) about his antics: his efforts to teach the resident Realians how to flirt with girls, his enthusiasm for collecting antique firearms, and his fondness reading old Earth books (made from paper, even!). So acclimated have Jr.'s personnel become to his presence that they basically accept his unchanging, unaging appearance as a matter of course and no one questions having a seeming twelve-year-old in charge of the ship.

Lightheartedness aside, Jr. does have a few skeletons in his closet. As a U.R.T.V., Jr. took part in a disastrous operation on the planet Miltia fourteen years ago, where his attempts to avoid the destruction of the planet by severing the mental link with his fellow U.R.T.V. units resulted in the deaths of some 660-plus fellow U.R.T.V.s. While Jr. and another U.R.T.V. variant (the man now known as Gaignun) were rescued, the others were killed or driven mad without the protection of the mental interlink -- including Jr.'s twin brother, Albedo, who managed to survive the incident, but became a raving, homicidal madman as a result, obsessed with Jr. and those closest to him. The events of the Miltian conflict thus left Jr. with a deep sense of guilt and anguish, as well as a fear of his own Red Dragon abilities, to the point where he now remains in the form of a twelve-year-old boy in the hopes that this will prevent his U.R.T.V. abilities from fully maturing. As an extension of that guilt, Jr. sees Albedo, who systematically seeks to hurt those most important to Jr. as some twisted combination of attention-seeking and revenge, as something of a personal responsibility. Jr. will do anything in his power to stop Albedo... and make sure nothing like the Miltian conflict ever occurs again.

Among the main cast, Jr. is acquaintances with chaos, friendly with Shion (if a little suspicious of her ability to entangle herself in top-secret incident after incident), and protective of MOMO, a little 100-series observational Realian who happens to resemble his first crush. He goes out of his way to give MOMO a good luck charm after it’s revealed that she’s being pursued by the unsavory U-TIC organization, and also attempts to rush headfirst into an enemy stronghold when it turns out she’s been kidnapped.

Among the U.R.T.V.s that have survived to the present day, Jr. is closest with his younger brother Gaignun; the two of them essentially run the for-profit Kukai Foundation together, with Jr. specializing in combat operations and Gaignun dealing with the business end. Jr. does not get along at all with Albedo, his twin brother, who has survived into adulthood only to become a cackling, scheming, twisted madman and murderer, who shows up on multiple occasions to try and goad Jr. into using his Red Dragon powers to kill Albedo once and for all.

So what does Jr. want? The safety of his friends. The happiness of those around him. To ensure that U-DO, the being he holds responsible for the destruction of fourteen years ago, never again threatens the people of the Federation. To ensure that dangerous artifacts like the Zohar stay sealed safely away from people who would use it for their own gain.

(And a little excitement while he's at it.)

3 Interesting Character Facts:
* Jr. was born as a conjoined twin. He was separated from his brother, Albedo, with no complications, but the two grew up closer than most of the U.R.T.V. units did with each other.
* Jr.'s alias, "Gaignun Kukai, Jr.", as well as the name of his ship, the Durandal, are references to a heroic poem called The Song of Roland. He also used to have a cat named Gaignun.
* Jr. is a big enough fan of the Terminator films that he made "Sayonara, baby!" one of his catch phrases (It's "Hasta la vista, baby" in the U.S. version of the film, of course). He also likes Bruce Lee, or at least he likes making Bruce Lee noises when he kicks things.
Powers:
Jr. is an excellent marksman who specializes in the use of twin pistols in battle. He also happens to be a U.R.T.V., a genetically engineered “designer child” designed as a countermeasure against U-DO, a mysterious and (seemingly) malevolent force whose nature no one in the Xenosaga universe completely understands. As a U.R.T.V., Jr. is capable of producing a special “anti-wave” energy whose wavelengths are designed to counteract the wave energy produced by the presence of U-DO. Were Jr. producing these waves by himself, the effects of the resultant waveform collision would be fairly contained (limited to the scope of a building or room, rather than a space station).

If the effort involved the efforts of over 600 U.R.T.V.s, however, enormous amounts of thermal energy would be released, resulting in the destruction of the U.R.T.V.s and everything around them (as might have occurred fourteen years ago during the Miltian conflict, had the U.R.T.V.s been fully deployed). Jr.’s anti-waves are stronger than that of the other U.R.T.V.s, and his ability to use this energy to destroy things around him is referred to as “Red Dragon”.

Jr. can pause his cellular development, effectively remaining at the same age indefinitely. He also possesses some telepathic ability, as he is able to communicate mentally with the other U.R.T.V.s and his brother, though he must be conscientious in monitoring what information he sends along, since it’s less of a mind probe than it is the sharing of two sets of thoughts. He was also the recipient of a vision just before a major offensive during the Militian conflict, which predicted the destruction of the planet Miltia as a direct consequence of the U.R.T.V.s' actions.

Character Info:

Full Name: Ezri Dax (formerly Ezri Tigan)
Called By: Ezri
Age: Her humanoid body is in early 20's, her symbiont is over 300. Mental age is, uh, both. Trill are weird.
Canon: Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Information about DS9 and Trill in particular.
History: Brief history of the Dax symbiont
Ezri's bio
Jadzia's bio (as the host directly preceding her, she's fairly relevant to Ezri).
Personality: Ezri is a good-natured person with a desire to help others through their problems, a dedication to duty, and a tendency to chatter. As a trained counselor, she's good at understanding people and figuring out their motivations or the root to their problems. She still struggles with helping them solve those problems, however, due in part to the fact that she has a lot of issues of her own.

She's coming to grips with the eight previous lives she had as Dax and has a decent handle on it now, although it's still confusing and can cause her stress. She can put her foot in her mouth pretty easily and will sometimes fall into self-pity if things aren't going right. On top of this, she is hyperaware of her own faults and often reacts by emotionally punishing herself to an inordinate degree. She knows that such a response isn't exactly helpful, but it still seems to be her inclination.

Despite her insecurities, Ezri is determined to do her job as well as she can, and she isn't afraid of letting people know when she sees them doing something wrong. She's quite capable of getting into a blazing argument or providing an observer's sometimes-unwanted perspective.
3 Interesting Character Facts:
1. While most Trill go trhough a 4-year program in order to join with a symbiont, Ezri got a 15-minute lecture from a human doctor prior to joining.
2. One of her past hosts was an unrepentant murderer.
3. She's severely allergic to insect and / or spider venom; it messes up the link between host and symbiont.

Powers: She doesn't have powers so much as alien physiology, detailed up in the Trill wiki link.
Special Skills: Gymnastics, engineering, piloting, some science and analytical skills from previous hosts. Also decent at hand-to-hand combat and phaser marksmanship. Ezri herself is a trained counselor, although still on the inexperienced side.
What is your character's comm icon and why? The official Trill emblem. Because she's a Trill.

But while she's trying to figure out whether this is tachyon particles or subspace or something dimensional, there is a station of people here and she has a job which she's pretty sure will be useful immediately... although it might take longer to fix subspace and chronitons. Anyway, she's going to make use of the network]

Hello, everyone. Well, it looks like we're going to be here for a little while, so I thought it would be quicker to introduce myself here than wait until I bump into all of you one-by-one.

My name is Ezri Dax, and--among other things--I'm a trained personal counselor. I know this is a very difficult situation and so, I thought I would let you all know that if you need someone to talk to, I'd be happy to try and help.

[Although she sounds a little awkward, she gives a genuine smile to the camera.]

It doesn't have to be about being stuck on a space station in the middle of unknown space either. Anything you want to talk about is okay.

inductionport: (Tali vas Normandy)

Supplementary app; SSV Normandy SR-2

[personal profile] inductionport 2013-01-15 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Ship Name: SSV Normandy SR-2

Ship Type: Prototype stealth-scout frigate

Size: ~216 meters long

Typical Crew Size: ~25, though it can be run with a smaller skeleton crew if needed.

Powered By: Nuclear fusion core

Weaponry: Javelin torpedoes and the Thanix cannon.

Special Abilities: Effective stealth from electronic detection thanks to the highly experimental Tantalus Drive core. This is achieved by pumping heat generated by the engines and other generators back into the hull. This effect is only attainable for a limited time, ranging from a few hours to a few weeks depending on whether the Normandy is active or passive. The heat must eventually be vented, or it may reach levels that cook the crew.

Description: Link

What is your character's claim on this ship?: Tali’zorah lived and worked on the original Normandy SR-1 and later the SR-2 whilst aiding Shepard in combating the Collectors and the Reaper threat, serving primarily in the capacity of chief engineer. Her name, 'vas Normandy,' is an indicator of belonging and of home as all quarians take on the honorific indicating their ship of residence once they're adults, replacing the 'nar' title which indicates the ship of their birth, i.e. Tali'zorah nar Rayyah becomes Tali'zorah vas Normandy.

[personal profile] anti_gnosis 2013-01-20 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
History: Link to the Xenosaga wiki
Written history:
Many thousands of years ago, on the human homeworld, two emanations of God went out into humanity, each carrying with them a spirit of great power -- Anima and Animus. The emanations, a male and a female, joined themselves to two humans, taking on their names as they did. The man, Yeshua, and male emanation who took his name together performed great miracles, wanting to give humanity a hope for the future and a lesson in what people and ideas could accomplish. The woman and female emanation served as help and companions for them.

When the man's task was finished, the female emanation, who had taken her human's name of Mary, used her power of Animus to seal the male emanation's Anima into twelve Vessels, for the power of Anima was the power to destroy the universe when the universe's time was finished, the "universal failsafe" of entropy. Such power could not be allowed to rove loose for the thousands of years that would intervene. The emanation of Mary would be needed to unlock Anima when the time came.

Mary herself was killed by the sealing, and her consciousness scattered itself into the universe. She was laid to rest at Rennes-le-Chateau, which was itself lost. Mary's Maiden would be needed to reawaken her.

Seven thousand years, give or take, passed. Humanity sent itself out into the stars in that time, and their homeworld was lost in the darkness, taking on a mythical status under the name of Lost Jerusalem. Science increased rapidly, and a company named Vector discovered that there was a mysterious energy field -- something they claimed was an energy field, anyway, for no one could fully understand it -- that could be used for communication, travel, transfer of mass and energy, and nearly any purpose they could dream of. The called it the Unus Mundus Network, or UMN, and claimed they had invented it.

It was discovered furthermore that there seemed to be a controlling conscious energy -- which they dubbed U-DO, Unus Mundus Drive Operating system. A group of scientists, involved with a religious extremist organization called U-TIC, worked to use U-DO as a connection to the Zohar and the UMN. Realians, artificial humans who straddled the line between mechanical psychological programming and natural cognition/emotion were found to be able to connect to U-DO, but direct human connection to U-DO resulted in insanity or death, as the vastness of U-DO induced extreme sensations of fear.

Since the discovery of U-DO, monsters called Gnosis had begun appearing in isolated groups in the galaxy. They appeared to exist at least partially in another dimension, for they were intangible -- able to pass through solid objects, and unable to be touched by humans or human weapons. They could touch, though, and humans who came into contact with Gnosis suffered one of two fates -- they were either transformed into pillars of salt immediately, or those with stronger wills escaped but gradually turned into Gnosis themselves, losing their hopes and human joys and succumbing to monstrosity.

A young scientist by the name of Kevin Winnicot, ostensibly working with the U-TIC group experimenting on U-DO but secretly connected to Wilhelm, the mysterious head of Vector Industries that claimed to control the UMN, began working on a side project, a "strategical multiple operation system that would obey the laws of order" intended to combat the Gnosis, which had destroyed his home planet of Michtam. This was developed into the gynoid KOS-MOS, after Kevin left U-TIC's auspices and went to work directly for Vector Industries.

The first version of KOS-MOS was activated "prematurely" -- entirely deliberately on Winnicot's part, as it was part of a larger plot that would end with him murdered and reborn as a Testament, one of Wilhelm's personal servants in his quest to thwart entropy and create a cycle of Eternal Recurrence of the universe. (Essentially, Wilhelm wanted to save the universe from its natural destruction by trapping it in a gigantic version of Groundhog Day.) This unfinished KOS-MOS killed Kevin (as he'd planned her to do) and traumatized his main subordinate on the project (and incidentally his fiancée), Shion Uzuki.

After Kevin's death, Shion took over leadership of the KOS-MOS project, continuing development on the robot. Kevin had left a great deal of black-box programming -- something that no one could penetrate or understand. This was because KOS-MOS, entirely apart from the overt purpose of destroying the Gnosis, had a secondary function. She was the container for Mary's consciousness, which had been scattered into U-DO's collective consciousness at the time of her death and later collected together again. Still dormant, it would require Mary's Maiden to awaken her, so that Mary's power of Animus could be used to bind Anima (whose twelve Vessels had been rediscovered) into the plot for Eternal Recurrence.

How convenient that Mary's Maiden had been reincarnated as Shion Uzuki, the new head developer for KOS-MOS. Kevin had been watching over Shion since she was a child, knowing that she was the one.

Two years after Kevin's death, the Gnosis phenomenon had spread steadily across the galaxy. The KOS-MOS development team, with their deactivated battle robot, were traveling through space with a Galaxy Federation military convoy when the convoy was attacked by Gnosis. When Shion was placed in danger, KOS-MOS activated herself and came to Shion's rescue, saving her, her second-in-command Allen Ridgely, and herself.

They were rescued by a salvage freighter called the Elsa, whose small crew included a mysterious, apparently ageless young man called chaos. (Yes, uncapitalized.) He appeared to recognize KOS-MOS, and felt great affection for her. When the Elsa's crew was in immediate danger, falling through the atmosphere of a planet and unable to slow their descent, KOS-MOS, or rather, Mary, was able to draw on a shared energy with chaos to save the ship. Although she did not know it, and it's unclear how much chaos knew, their resonance was due to a simple thing -- chaos was Yeshua, Mary's partner emanation.

Mary's spirit within KOS-MOS awakened on several occasions, usually to protect Shion from danger -- it was simple proximity to Shion and chaos that allowed these awakenings. However, these awakenings were brief, and Mary faded back into dormancy each time as soon as the danger was over. The first time, the Elsa -- with Shion onboard -- was being pursued by an enormous number of Gnosis, far too many to outmaneuver and all of them too fast to outrun. KOS-MOS left the safety of the ship's interior despite Shion's protestations, hiding her face from her creator to shield the sight of bright blue eyes (the mark of Mary's consciousness), and unveiled an enormously powerful weapon, the X-Buster, which destroyed the entire group of Gnosis.

Wilhelm, fearing that Mary's spirit was altering within KOS-MOS, leaving her unsuitable for the purpose he intended for her, ordered the resurrected Kevin to create a new carrier for him -- T-elos, created from Mary's body at the rediscovered Rennes-le-Chateau. T-elos was intended to destroy KOS-MOS and absorb Mary's spirit from her, becoming complete.

KOS-MOS is drawn from the first time she faced T-elos, standing in a subterranean chamber of a floating landmass that may have been a piece of Lost Jerusalem -- a fragment that included the church of Rennes-le-Chateau, where Mary had long ago been laid to rest.

Full Name: Mordin Solus
Called By: Mordin, Doctor Solus
Age: Mid 30s, exact count unknown
Canon: Mass Effect
History: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mordin_Solus
Personality:
The first thing to note about Mordin is the way he talks. He speaks in short sentences, trying to get the point across as quickly as possible, punctuating with sharply inhaled breaths as if he is only remembering to breathe when he is done speaking. Salarians in general have a relatively short lifespan (approximately 40 years), and this is just one of the ways that Mordin shows that he prefers not to waste time. If he gets excited though, he tends to speak more rapidly in clusters of sentences until someone interrupts him.

Mordin’s joy comes from throwing himself at a challenge. He set up a clinic in a crime ridden slum of his own accord because it needed to be done. When he’s recruited by Shepard, he knows the situation is serious simply because he’s being asked to join and shows little fear, even if he himself is going down into the field. He also admits that if he tried to retire he’d go crazy without something to work on.

However, he prefers to be efficient in the way he does things, and often thinks that his way is the best. There are many records of his insubordination to his superior when he was working with the Special Tasks Group. In a discussion about Kirrahe he comments: “Liked to give big speeches. HOLD THE LINE. Prefer to get job done and go home.”

While he seems brusque, he is actually a friendly person and gets along well enough with the crew of the Normandy. He simply speaks very bluntly and feels no need to hide his opinions of anyone or anything. Most often, his shortness comes when his work in the lab is being interrupted or questioned. His greatest care is for his patients; he will do his best to treat them, even when the odds are against him, and he has a wonderful bedside manner in those rare occasions when he allows his emotions to the front instead of cold logic.

When questioned about his work, Mordin will often claim that the ends justify the means. He justifies his work on the Krogan Genophage by saying that limiting their population growth helped to prevent future wars. He tries to keep a logical focus on things, trying not to let his emotions, conscience or personal opinions interfere with something that must be done for the greater good.

However, despite his coldness, he does not actually believe that all means are valid. While he will do things for the greater good, he does have a sense of moral obligation to his art. He would never intentionally kill or harm someone with medicine, and he has a personal rule against performing tests on any species capable of calculus. He also shows great distaste for any unnecessary loss of life, decrying it as reckless and wasteful.

While he considers his time working on the Krogan genophage to be the happiest of his life, simply enjoying the scientific challenge and camaraderie, he does secretly regret his work. Under the right circumstances in the third game, one can get him to admit that his involvement was a mistake, forcing him to resort to both shouting and referring to himself via a personal pronoun, both of which are out of character for him.

Apart from his regrets about the genophage, Mordin is a rock when it comes to his convictions. He is always sure of himself and what he does, both in the lab as well as in combat. He will not back down from shooting someone if it’ll get the job done where talking fails, if simply just to save time. If questioned about why he involves himself in things, even ones that he may voice objection to, his answer is simple “Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.”

3 Interesting Character Facts:
1) During one mission with the Salarian Special Tasks Group, Mordin killed a Krogan with a pitchfork. It was this same fight in which Mordin lost a portion of his right cranial horn and received the scar on his face.
2) Mordin enjoys singing, both as a thinking aid as well as done as a hobby. He enjoys Gilbert and Sullivan and prefers the patter songs.
3) Mordin ran a clinic in the crime ridden station of Omega. Some of the local mercenaries tried to extort him via a protection racket. Mordin killed them himself, put the bodies on display, and didn’t have a problem since.

Powers: Through his omnitool, Mordin is able to utilize the Tech abilities “Incinerate”, “Cryo Blast” and “Neural Shock”. Incinerate and Cryo Blast are tactical moves modified off of normal Omnitool use that fire a super-heated or super-cooled mass from the omnitool to burn or freeze the intended target. These attacks, as well as the omnitool itself, are standard things that exist in the Mass Effect canon. Mordin’s unique attack, Neural Shock, is an energy beam fired from the Omnitool to briefly impair and paralyze his target.

Character Info:
Full Name: Captain Jack Harkness.
Called By: Jack.
Age: Appears about 40, actually is somewhere around 2,200.
Canon: Doctor Who/Torchwood
http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Doctor_Who
http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Torchwood_Institute
History: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Jack_Harkness
Jack was born in the 51st century on a planet that has never been named. He grew up in the Boeshane Peninsula, a sandy area that contained a human colony, with his mother, his father, Franklin, and younger brother, Gray. One day, the Boeshane Peninsula was attacked by unknown aliens. Jack’s father told him to take Gray and run, while he went back for their mother. In the confusion, Jack let go of Gray’s hand, and his brother disappeared. When he tried to backtrack his steps, Jack returned back home just in time to see that his father had also died. Despite many years searching for his brother, Jack would never find a trace of Gray.

Jack left home at a young age. As soon as he could, he signed up with the Time Agency, where he would become known as the ‘Face of Boe’ for his origins in the Boeshane Peninsula. Not much of Jack’s service with the Time Agency is known. He did gain his Vortex Manipulator, a wrist-band device that would allow him to time travel, from the Time Agency. He was partnered with the man now known as Captain John Hart for an assignment that led them to be stuck in a two-week time loop for five years. The two men were partners “in every sense,” but as soon as they broke the time loop, Jack left John. He still cared for John, but not nearly as much as John loved Jack.

One day, Jack awoke to discover that two years of his memories were missing, most likely taken by the Time Agency. (Canon has never explained what has happened during these two years or why these memories were taken.) Jack left the Time Agency and became a time-traveling con man for some time. His usual con involved collecting a piece of space junk, directing it to a site that he knew from his time travel would be destroyed soon, and selling it to a local just in time for it to be destroyed, so the buyer would never find out what he had purchased.

Jack attempted to run this con in 1941 London, during the London Blitz. He had taken on the identity of Captain Jack Harkness, who was an American volunteer with the Royal Air Force, who had just died during a training mission. A Chula ambulance filled with nanogenes crash-landed at a place where a bombing would eventually fall. He got the attention of people who he believed were other Time Agents, but turned out to be the Ninth incarnation of the Doctor, and his companion, Rose Tyler. The crash of the Chula ambulance had sent nanogenes out into London, and the first template that the nanogenes encountered was the a dead body, so the nanogenes became a plague, transforming any life they encountered into gas-mask zombies. When the Doctor confronted Jack with this information, and explained that this entire situation was Jack’s fault, Jack was at first defensive, but he did realize that it was his responsibility to set things right. As the Doctor reprogrammed the nanogenes, Jack caught the bomb that was supposed to destroy the site in a tractor beam of his ship, and was willing to sacrifice himself to fix his mistake. The Doctor brought him aboard the TARDIS at the last instant, and brought Jack along as a companion.

Jack had many adventures with the Doctor, including a journey to modern-day Cardiff. Jack found out about the inter-dimensional rift beneath Cardiff, which the Doctor would use as a refueling station, since the Eye of Harmony was now cut off on Gallifrey due to the Time War. The Doctor, Jack, Rose, and Mickey Smith teamed up to stop Blon, a survivor of the Slitheen family who had attempted to destroy the earth once before. They prevented Blon from forcibly opening the Cardiff rift, and by opening the heart of the TARDIS, Blon was transformed back into an egg, and given a chance to live her life over again.

The Doctor, Jack, and Rose were taken aboard Satellite Five, a game station that operated over Earth in the year 200,100. The three of them discovered that they had been pulled into the Satellite in order to help stop an impending Dalek invasion. Rose was teleported over to the Dalek ship, but the Doctor and Jack went after her to get her back. They prepared for the defense of the Game Station while the Doctor would set up a wave to destroy the Dalek fleet. Jack told the Doctor that before he had met him, he had been a coward, and maybe he was better off that way. He kissed both Rose and the Doctor, and then set up to be the Doctor’s last line of defense against the Daleks, knowing that he would most likely die in the fight.

Jack did, indeed, die fighting, emptying all his ammunition into three Daleks, before being shot by their rays and killed. However, the Doctor had sent Rose home in the TARDIS in order to protect her. Rose forced the TARDIS to go back by opening the heart of the TARDIS and absorbing its energy. She returned to Satellite Five, and used the TARDIS energy to destroy the Dalek fleet.

The Doctor tried to get Rose to give up the energy, but she proclaimed, “I bring life.” At this moment, Jack resurrected for the first time. Jack would later discover that this action had permanently brought him back to life, and no matter how many times he would die, he would always come back.

However, the Doctor and Rose left the station without Jack. Jack used his Vortex Manipulator to teleport off the station, aiming for the 20th century, but he got the calculation wrong and ended up in the year 1869, when his manipulator promptly burnt out, and he could not teleport again. Jack made his way to the Cardiff rift, knowing that the Doctor would have to return to the rift to refuel at some point. However, Jack didn’t know that previous versions of the Doctor were still refueling at the Eye of Harmony in Gallifrey, and therefore, the Doctor would not return to the rift for a very long time.

In 1899, Jack was discovered by agents of Torchwood Three in Cardiff. He was brought in as a person of interest for his inability to die and because he was asking about the Doctor in public places. Jack originally did not want to work with Torchwood, but he encountered a fortune teller who told him that he would have to wait at least a century until the Doctor would return. Jack accepted a commission at Torchwood Three and spent the next century working for them.

Not all of Jack’s time waiting was spent in Cardiff. Jack would travel to India, China, South America, and various places around the British Isles. His main concern was to not encounter a previous version of the Doctor. When he would finally find the Doctor again, he would complain about “having to wait on a version of you that coincided with me.” He was certainly aware of the other versions of the Doctor, but he could not risk encountering any of them.

Jack’s long wait had made him jaded, and by 1965, he had a reputation for being the Torchwood agent that didn’t care. When an alien race known as the 456 came to Earth and threatened to release a deadly virus unless they were given twelve children, Jack was the agent chosen to hand over the kids. Jack drove the twelve orphans to the meeting point, and watched as they were picked up by the 456. Unknown to Jack, the aliens missed one of the children, Clement McDonald, who escaped. This act would haunt Jack for the rest of his days, but he would give himself the bitter comfort that the exchange seemed to work, because the 456 left Earth alone.

Shortly thereafter, in 1969, the alien-fighting military organization known as UNIT was formed. While it is clear that UNIT and Torchwood knew about each other’s existence, they would never work together in an official capacity, since UNIT was strictly military, and Torchwood was notorious for not answering to any authority. It has been suggested that Jack knows of UNIT’s structure, for example, the existence of the Brigadier, and the fact that previous versions of the Doctor have worked with UNIT, which gives Jack another reason to distance himself from the organization.

In 1975, Jack had a daughter with fellow Torchwood agent Lucia Moretti. Their daughter, originally named Melissa, aged normally, and seemed to have none of Jack’s regeneration capabilities. Lucia left Jack in 1977, and retired from Torchwood, with her daughter. The daughter was put in Witness Protection, and given the name Alice Sangster. Jack eventually rebuilt a relationship with his daughter, who knew about Jack’s immortality. Alice’s son, Steven, however, believed that Jack was his uncle, and not his grandfather.

On New Year’s Day, 2000, a member of Torchwood Three, Alex Hopkins, murdered the rest of Torchwood’s staff at the time, while under the influence of alien technology. Alex apologized for not being able to take Jack with him, and then shot himself. As the only member of Torchwood Three left, control of the Cardiff base fell to Jack.

Jack would slowly rebuild his staff, recruiting second-in-command Suzie Costello, technical expert Toshiko Sato in 2004, and medic Dr. Owen Harper in 2006. On Christmas, 2006, a Sycorax ship appeared over London, and the freshly-regenerated Tenth Doctor went to stop them. What had been 150 years for Jack was a day later to the Doctor. Jack did not find out about the Doctor’s appearance in time to go see if it was the right one. The Doctor had lost his hand in a swordfight with the Sycorax leader, but was able to regenerate it instantly. After Torchwood One shot down the Sycorax ship, Jack was able to go investigate the wreckage. He found the Doctor’s fallen hand, and kept it in stasis as a “Doctor-detector.”

In 2007, a void ship punched a hole between realities, and left a dimensional hole that allowed mysterious ghosts to come through into this world. Torchwood One built the Canary Wharf tower to reach the hole and investigate it, as well as to examine the ship that no one knew anything about. Jack was aware of the actions of current Torchwood One director Yvonne Hartman, but was unable to warn her away from experimenting with the dimensional hole as an energy source.

The ghosts turned out to be Cybermen, beings that existed to convert all other forms of life into the “perfect” life form by removing all humanity and replacing it with technology. The Cybermen came across dimensions at all places in the world at once, and Jack with Torchwood Three had to fend off the Cybermen attack on Cardiff to make sure the rift manipulator technology at the base did not fall into the Cybermen’s hands.

The Battle of Canary Wharf, as it was later called, was fought as the Doctor arrived, and tried to stop the Cybermen invasion, but at that same point, the void ship opened to reveal Dalek survivors of the Time War. With the Daleks and the Cybermen fighting over Torchwood One, the Doctor eventually closed the dimensional gap, trapping the Cybermen and Daleks in the void, but trapping Rose Tyler in another dimension. Rose Tyler was listed as deceased at the Battle of Canary Wharf, and Jack believed that she was dead.

With Torchwood One destroyed, Torchwood Three was now the primary Torchwood base. They scavenged the wreckage of Torchwood One, and pulled everything they could back to Cardiff. Shortly thereafter, a former Torchwood One employee named Ianto Jones approached Jack to try to get a job. Jack was resistant, especially after he found out about Ianto’s past with Torchwood. Ianto later ran into him again, and asked for his help in capturing a loose pterodactyl that had fallen through the rift. After this incident, Jack agreed to hire Ianto as essentially an administrative assistant, rather than field personnel.

Jack was immediately attracted to Ianto, and would flirt or openly make passing remarks, only to be met with Ianto accusing him of harassment. Jack would never push his attentions onto Ianto, though, believing Ianto to be still recovering from the death of his girlfriend, Lisa Hallet, at the Battle of Canary Wharf.

As Torchwood investigated the properties of the Resurrection Gauntlet, they ran across a police constable, Gwen Cooper, who was intrigued by Torchwood. She successfully tracked down their base and asked for answers. When Jack tried to retcon her by drugging her to remove her memories, she was able to partially shake it off, and determine that Suzie Costello was committing murders in order to test the power of the Gauntlet. When Gwen and Suzie confronted each other, Jack tried to intervene, but Suzie shot Jack. Jack resurrected in front of Gwen and Suzie, and Suzie shot herself before Jack could take her into custody. With Gwen knowing Jack’s secret, Jack had no choice but to recruit Gwen to Torchwood.

Jack would maintain an attraction to Gwen, but he could never figure out if he truly wanted Gwen, or if he wanted the normal life that Gwen had with her boyfriend, Rhys. He would constantly urge her to make sure to keep her regular life and Torchwood balanced, as if it was important to Jack for her to keep a normal life.

Shortly after Gwen’s hiring, it was revealed that Ianto’s girlfriend, Lisa, was not dead, but had been partially Cyber-converted at the Battle of Canary Wharf. Ianto had been hiding Lisa in the basement of Torchwood Three in order to keep her alive. After accidentally sparking a rampage that almost got them all killed, Jack and the rest of the team shot Lisa down. Ianto repeatedly rose to Lisa’s defense, even after Lisa had tried to kill him. Jack’s unofficial first kiss with Ianto was when he was trying to revive him. With Ianto’s betrayal revealed, but Lisa dead, Jack put Ianto on suspension, but was eventually able to forgive Ianto, realizing that he would have done the same thing for someone he loved.

As the team faced more missions, Jack’s attraction to Ianto was slowly growing, and eventually, Ianto’s attraction to Jack grew back. By the time that Suzie Costello had briefly returned to life, Ianto and Jack had become intimate with each other. Gwen had started sleeping with Owen, as well, during this time, but Jack was distracted enough by Ianto that he took no notice.

After a group of people from 1953 fell through the rift to the present day, Jack grew close to John Ellis, identifying with the man who was out of his time, but was unable to prevent the man from ultimately killing himself. Owen had grown close to another rift refugee, Diane, but she left Owen to fly back through the rift. Owen took Diane’s loss hard, and broke off his affair with Gwen.

Jack and Toshiko were investigating rift activity at a dance hall, when they were suddenly pulled back in time to 1941. There, Jack met the real Captain Jack Harkness, the American volunteer whom Jack took the name of. He quickly realized that this was the real Captain Jack’s last day alive. After ignoring their attraction to each other for a few hours, the two men shared a dance and a kiss just before the rift was opened to pull them home. Jack would never forget the real man behind the name he had taken.

History (cont.):
Unfortunately, when Jack returned home, he found out that Owen had opened the rift, not for their sake, but in an attempt to get Diane back. This manipulation of the rift created aftershocks, and random things from out of time began appearing throughout Cardiff, then spreading out through the British Isles. Due to the manipulation of Bilis Manger, the team believed that opening the rift again was the only way to stop everything. When Jack tried to stop them, Owen shot him and killed him. Jack revived in front of the entire team, too late to stop them. The opening of the rift had released the creature Abbadon, which stole life. Jack confronted Abbadon, allowing the creature to feed off his life energy in order to spare the rest of the city. Jack lapsed into a coma, and did not awaken for days.

Jack awoke, and had enough time to forgive his team for their betrayal, but before anyone could ask about his immortality, the Doctor’s hand began to glow, heralding that the correct Doctor had returned. Jack sprinted out to the plas to catch the Doctor, who tried to take off without him, but Jack clung on to the outside of the TARDIS and left with the ship.

Jack’s interference sent the TARDIS to the year 100,000,000,000,000. Flying unprotected through the Time Vortex killed Jack, but he promptly revived, and confronted the Tenth Doctor. He also met the Doctor’s current companion, Martha Jones, who he built a fast friendship with. Jack, the Doctor, and Martha, found a group of humans looking to get to Utopia, a safe haven from the end of the universe. The man in charge of the expedition, Professor Yana, was having trouble getting the ship to leave Earth. While solving the Professor’s problem, the Doctor revealed that he had known about Jack’s immortality the entire time. He told Jack that he was a fixed point in time and space now, and to a Time Lord, that was just “wrong.”

Professor Yana eventually regained his memories as a Time Lord, and became the Master, the long-time enemy of the Doctor. The Master stole the TARDIS, and tried to strand Jack, the Doctor, and Martha at the end of the universe. The Doctor fixed Jack’s Vortex Manipulator, and teleported them home. The Master had engineered things back in the present day for himself to be elected Prime Minister under the name Harold Saxon. The Master was going to herald first contact with an alien race known as the Toclafane, and the Doctor knew that this was some kind of a trick. Jack, the Doctor, and Martha snuck aboard the flying airship carrier Valiant in order to stop the Master. They found that the TARDIS had been turned into a Paradox Machine, but were unable to figure out what paradox it would keep in perpetuity until it was too late.

Jack and the Doctor were unable to stop the Master’s plans. The Master forcibly aged the Doctor to make him feeble, and killed Jack. When he revived, Jack handed Martha his Vortex Manipulator, and she was able to teleport off the ship. Jack and the Doctor were held captive by the Master for a year, along with Martha Jones’ family. Jack was repeatedly killed throughout this year by the Master, either for breaking out of his captivity, or just for the Master’s amusement. It is unknown if the Master found the Torchwood team during this year. He had hinted that Torchwood was off “on a wild goose chase in the Himalayas,” but it is unknown what happened to the team.

After a year, Martha Jones returned to save Jack and the Doctor, and by using the satellite network that the Master had put in place to try to control the human race, the Doctor was able to restore himself. Freed, Jack destroyed the Paradox Machine, which reverted time back to the point that the paradox had begun. The entire last year had been wiped out, except for the people on the Valiant. The Doctor attempted to take the Master with him on his travels, but the Master’s wife shot him, and he refused to regenerate.

Jack returned to Torchwood, rather than travel with the Doctor again, proclaiming that he had to take responsibility. The team was very angry with him for leaving, but Jack explained that he had found his Doctor. When asked why he had returned, Jack admitted that he had “come back for you,” looking at Ianto, but quickly amended that to “all of you.” He would later admit to his growing feelings for Ianto by asking him out on a proper date.

The team was confronted by Captain John Hart, who had stumbled into this time zone in search of a diamond from a woman that he had killed. John asked Jack to accompany him back traveling, but Jack refused. John pushed Jack off a building and killed him. John was understandably very surprised when Jack revived and confronted him again, later. John’s mistake was dealt with, and Jack sent John back through the rift. Just before he left, John finally told Jack, “I found Gray.” This was the first word Jack had heard of his brother in a hundred and fifty years.

A memory-manipulating alien known as Adam would recover Jack’s memories of his early life, including the last good memories of his family, but Jack would lose these memories again when he erased Adam from the team’s memory.

Jack reunited with Martha when the team was investigating the Pharm, a place that turned out to be using alien parasites to cure diseases. When the Pharm was shut down, the Pharm’s head, Dr. Copley, shot Owen and killed him. Jack hunted down the other Resurrection Glove to bring Owen back, just to say goodbye, but the effect was permanent. Jack had brought Owen back to life, but not alive. Owen had lost all his biological functions, he couldn’t breathe, eat, or even feel. Bringing back Owen also released an extradimensional being of Death, Duroc, which only Owen, already being dead, could defeat. Jack felt guilty not only for getting Owen killed, but for bringing him back to life in this hell, so he at first tried to relegate Owen to administrative duties, but eventually, he found that he needed Owen back in the field.

John Hart returned by setting a trap for Torchwood and trying to blow the team up. All members survived, but John had set multiple other bombs throughout Cardiff. John revealed that he had brought Gray to Cardiff, and he was under duress from Jack’s brother. Gray blamed Jack for his kidnapping at the hands of aliens, and now he wanted Jack to suffer. Jack was brought to the year 27 AD and buried beneath Cardiff. He spent the next 1900 years repeatedly reviving, suffocating, and dying again. Jack was eventually found and dug up by Torchwood in 1901, but he explained that he had accidentally crossed his own time-line, and had to be put in cryostasis in the hub. By the time that Jack defrosted and was able to stop Gray, it was too late to stop the death of Toshiko Sato and the second death of Owen Harper.

Jack would continue to run Torchwood with just himself, Ianto, and Gwen. Jack was able to help Martha prevent the Large Hadron Collider from opening a portal to another world. Jack helped the Doctor and Donna Noble stop Davros from destroying all of reality. And through it all, his romance with Ianto was growing closer, even as he resisted it. In 2009, when Jack was incapacitated by an alien traveling through phone lines, Ianto sat at Jack’s bedside and admitted his fears about Jack moving on and leaving him. When he awoke, Jack admitted that Ianto was “more than just a blip in time,” which would be about as close as Jack would ever get to an admission of love while Ianto was still alive.

In 2009, the 456 returned to Earth. Jack was kept unaware of the 456’s return as the government conspired to take out anyone with prior knowledge of the 456. A bomb was smuggled into the Torchwood base through Jack, and he was barely able to get Ianto and the now-pregnant Gwen out of the hub in time before it exploded. Jack’s remains were captured, and Jack spent an agonizing day regrowing his body, periodically reviving, and then dying again from the intense pain and shock. When they realized that he would not stay dead, his captors tried to encase him in concrete to keep him in one place. Ianto was still able to rescue Jack, with the use of a forklift, and freed him.

Now officially enemies of the state, Jack had no legal course of action. Once Gwen found Clement McDonald, Jack finally put the pieces together and discovered that this was the return of the 456. Torchwood was able to smuggle a hidden camera into the government meetings through the secretary Lois Habiba. Torchwood was able to watch as the situation deteriorated, and the government ended up promising one tenth of Earth’s population of children to the 456.

Having discovered that Jack had escaped, civil servant John Frobisher discovered Jack’s daughter and grandson, Alice and Steven, and had them captured to ensure Jack’s compliance. The situation backfired as Jack and Ianto forced their way into Thames House to confront the 456. The 456 released a virus that killed everyone in Thames House. Ianto died in Jack’s arms, finally telling Jack that he loved him, but Jack was unable to say it back. He kissed Ianto one last time as they both died, but only Jack would revive hours later.

Jack had given in to defeat, and arranged for Gwen to be taken back to Cardiff so that she would be safe and to safeguard Ianto’s niece and nephew. However, Alice had not yet given up. With the information that the government had been about to sell a tenth of the Earth’s children to aliens, Alice was able to turn her captors to Jack’s side. Jack was rescued by the people who had previously been against him, and they asked him to stop the 456. When the 456 had released their virus, they had also severed their connection with Clement McDonald. Jack was able to use this frequency to destroy the 456, but he would need a child to transmit the frequency back at the 456. With time running out, Jack was forced to sacrifice his grandson, Steven, to transmit the wave. It worked, and the Earth was saved, but Alice and Jack were both heart-broken. Alice walked out of Jack’s life and didn’t look back.

With Torchwood gone, Jack wandered the Earth for six months. He tried to put the memories of his failures in the past, but just couldn’t run away enough. He returned to Cardiff on the night of the House of the Dead. A psychic was attempting to channel the spirits of the dead. Jack arrived to find Ianto waiting for him. Ianto did not know that he was dead, and was trying to help Jack as if nothing had happened. Ianto and Jack were both confronted with the spirit of Ianto’s dead father, who eventually revealed that Ianto was dead. Ianto grew angry with Jack, but Jack admitted that he had come to the House of the Dead to find Ianto again. Out of all of the people he had lost, Ianto was the only one he wanted to see again. The demon that was bringing back the dead made Jack an offer to take Ianto and leave, instead of blowing up the rift, and sealing it forever. Jack took the deal, and attempted to leave the House of the Dead with Ianto, but Ianto refused, and took the detonator. In his last moments, Jack and Ianto finally professed their love for each other, and then Ianto went inside the rift and sealed it.

This was one heartbreak too many for Jack, and he contacted Gwen to return his Vortex Manipulator to him. He decided to leave Earth, and Gwen’s pleading was not enough to convince him to stay. In the face of too many failures, too many losses, Jack teleported away from Earth.

But where would he land?

Personality:
Day-to-day interactions with Jack will seem light-hearted. He will freely flirt with just about anyone who he believes will show interest, and a few people who won’t, just to get a reaction out of them. He is quick with a joke, and will attempt to lighten any mood that is appropriate. This mode gives way quickly in a dangerous situation, however, and at that point, the disciplined Captain persona will appear. He will be over-confident to the edge of arrogance, and always appears to have the situation in hand, even when he is in way over his head. He will be the first to throw himself into a dangerous situation, with the belief that he is expendable, especially when it is to protect someone else. This behavior predates his resurrection by Rose, and really is a core part of his personality, not just an effect of immortality. Beneath this exterior, however, are self-recriminating tendencies that border on self-destruction.

Jack’s two primary coping mechanisms are hiding behind humor and keeping up an aura of mystery towards everyone he cares about. The things that make him the most worried, such as his inability to die, will also be the first things he will make jokes about. Attempts to seriously discuss things that are troubling him will usually be met with deflection or antagonism until he trusts someone. Even after he trusts someone, he will usually respond with coping mechanism number two, and keep any personal information as mysterious as possible in an attempt to keep people at a protective distance. Revealing too much of his past actions is too emotional for him. He judges himself harshly for what he perceives to be past failures, and he believes anyone else would judge him just as harshly.

Jack has lost enough people that he maintains a self-destructive balance of caring for people and wanting to protect them, while keeping them at arm’s length at the same time. Towards his team, he is friendly, yet trying to protect them from information that they can’t handle or situations that are too dangerous. But he never forgets that ultimately, he will fail to protect everyone, and eventually he will watch everyone he cares about die while he continues to live.

His most recent losses have made this internal conflict much more salient. Jack sacrificed his own grandson in order to save the world, and this cost him his daughter, as well, who walked out of Jack’s life immediately after the 456 incident. Jack lost the man he loved, Ianto Jones, twice, first to the 456, and then again at the House of the Dead. Jack was perfectly willing to let the rift open if it meant that he got Ianto back, but Ianto refused to let him, and walked back into the rift to save the world. One too many reminders of Jack’s failings remained, and so Jack distanced himself from Earth, entirely, and ran away.

As he arrives on the Station just after Ianto’s second death, Jack will keep a mostly surface-level interaction with people, until he works through some of his pain, or finds someone that he can trust.

Aliases: Samantha Jones (Torchwood), Grayhound 6 (UNIT)
Age: 26
Canon: Doctor Who, taken post-Journey’s End. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who )

History:
A woman who walked the Earth, Dr. Martha Jones (MD) is a secret keeper, a time traveler and a hero of an unremembered year. The middle child of Francine and Clive Jones, Martha Jones began her affiliation with the man known as the Doctor - some might say - by complete accident, but how often does the universe work completely randomly? A medical student at the Royal Hope Hospital, Martha Jones found herself - along with everyone else, staff, patients and students - stuck on the moon (thanks to the Judoon) when a Plasmavore was hiding within.

Despite evident reluctance on the part of the Doctor, he invited Martha to come along with him following the hospital's return to Earth. It was supposed to be one trip. Just one, but after meeting William Shakespeare and defeating the Carrionites, the Doctor amended the deal. One trip was now turned into two: one to the past and one to the future. They ended up in the city of New New York, followed by a jaunt to the city of New York (the original) during the Great Depression where they found themselves facing the Cult of Skaro and the newly-hybridized Dalek Sec, now half human. Two trips became three, and then the Doctor returned Martha home - the same day she had left... or he was about to when some on the television grabbed his attention just as he was dematerialized.

After the gala presenting the Lazarus Project in which it was revealed that Professor Richard Lazarus had become a monster, Martha continued accompanying the Doctor on his travels. Their travels brought them in contact with alien forms, some friendly some not. Among the most trying of these was a necessary three-month period of hiding in 1913. After an encounter with the Family of Blood lead to the doctor using the TARDIS' Chameleon Arch to turn the Doctor into the human John Smith. With the Doctor Human and Martha the only one of the two with any clue what was going on, it was up to her to not only keep the secret, but - in the guise of his servant (facing issues of class gaps and racist jeers - attempt to keep him safe.. Unfortunately the instructions left for her by the doctor left out quite a few things and it became her responsibility to bring the doctor back...even if it meant that John Smith had to die in the process.

Following a run-in with the Weeping Angels, which sent the both Martha and the Doctor back to the 1960s, the two travelers found themselves thrown to the end of the universe with Captain Jack Harkness. After the return of the Doctor's arch-nemesis the Master (who had used a Chameleon Arch of his own to hide himself as Professor Yana), the world fell under the reign of The Master, who had been elected Britain's Prime Minister under the name Harold Saxon. Her family, Jack and the Doctor held captive on the UNIT airborne military aircraft carrier Valiant and the world under his thumb, with six billion Toclafane, Martha was teleported from the carrier and wandered the world for an entire year, under instructions to leave and defeat the Master.

After 365 days away from Britain, Martha landed back on its shores - having become a legend in her own time. Arriving back on British soil by boat under cover of darkness, Martha was met by a man named Thomas Milligan, a doctor-turned-freedom fighter. Having traveled the world, under the guise of searching for a weapon to kill the Master, she had seen Japan destroyed; the people of South Africa burned alive, worldwide destruction which changed her. After a visit to one Professor Docherty, the capture and dissection of a caught Toclafane then betrayal and position compromised by the professor, the Master came to Earth (from the Valiant), killed Tom and captured Martha. The pieces of the weapon she'd been gathering taken from her and destroyed, it was revealed that it had been a ruse; Martha had not been gathering a weapon, she had been telling a story, about the Doctor and how to defeat the Master. After the use of the Archangel Satellite Network freed the Doctor and with the Master out of the picture, the Paradox Machine (which had been made out of the cannibalized TARDIS) was broken, time began to rewind an entire year. Only those aboard the Valiant - at the center of the storm remembered the events of "The Year That Never Was."

Following the events of The-Year-That-Never-Was Martha could no longer continue the way things had been. Having seen too much human suffering she just could not leave. Not Earth. Not then. Making the decision to stay behind was something that she broke to the Doctor after visiting not only her family - recovering from the ordeal together - but also Professor Docherty and calling Tom Milligan (who was working in pediatrics), both alive, both without any knowledge of what had happened. She left the TARDIS, leaving the Doctor with a cellular phone, one of his specially made super-phones, with the promise that she would see him again. She walked away from the TARDIS with her head held high, ready for the world.

Re: Martha Jones | Dr. Who/Torchwood pg2

[personal profile] nightingalesway 2013-01-22 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
After leaving the Doctor, Martha looked for employment that suited her, the new her. Completing her medical training, she was contacted by a representative of the Unified Intelligence Taskforce, (formerly the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce) - "someone" had put in a good word for her and she was offered a position. It was as a member of UNIT that she visited Torchwood 3 in Cardiff on the request of her friend Captain Jack Harkness. Once there she took part in an investigation into an organization known as the Pharm, where she went undercover and was saved from possible death by Owen Harper shortly before the man sustained a fatal bullet wound. Asked to stay on as their temporary Medical Officer, things only got stranger from there. Not only did Owen come back from the dead but Martha was turned into an old woman by a strange force - "Death" - that had possessed Owen. After this incident she left Torchwood for her job at UNIT.... unfortunately work kept her from attending Gwen Cooper's wedding, of which she was invited.

Sometime later, as promised, Martha made contact with the Doctor, needing his assistance with their ATMOS sting operation. This became much bigger than a simple raid, leading to Martha's being cloned and impersonated - her double working against UNIT, helping the Sontaran invasion plan. Upon the ending of the situation, with the Sontarans gone, Martha said her goodbyes, but the TARDIS had other plans for Martha, the Doctor and the Doctor's new companion - Donna Noble - taking them to the planet Messaline where a war was raging. Martha was separated from the Doctor and Donna when more fighting broke out between the Hath and the Humans and a charge was detonated by Jenny - a genetic replicant of the Doctor. Spending her time with the Hath and going above ground to avoid the tunnels and find Donna and the Doctor - Martha was very much prepared to return home... Especially after watching Jenny die - although Martha had not gotten to know her very well.

With the TARDIS no longer in control, Martha was returned home to her job at UNIT, leaving the traveling to the Doctor with a smile and a hug, and going back to her fiancée - Tom Milligan (yes, the very same), but it would only be a short time before the world was yet again in danger and Martha found herself in the center of it...

Having received a promotion to medical officer of Project Indigo in New York City (and breaking her engagement to Tom), Martha found herself entrusted not only with the project itself but also the Osterhagen Key... Despite warnings from Jack Harkness, under orders Martha attempted to use Project Indigo - a teleportation device scavenged from the Sontarans - to get herself first to her mother and then to Germany and Osterhagen Station 5. From the station in Germany she and three other internationally-spread stations could - if necessary - bring about the end of the Earth.

Following the events of Earth's moving by the Daleks to the Medusa Cascade, not only did she meet the elusive Rose Tyler, but after all her experiences therein Martha Jones began to question her job with UNIT... After leaving the TARDIS with Jack and Mickey Smith, Martha was unfortunately recalled to UNIT HQ for a debriefing and then batteries of questions, tests, and examinations trying to figure out how the machine had succeeded in getting her to Germany, and of course, to reclaim her Osterhagen key (which she was determined not to give back). All the while, being treated more like a test subject than a medical officer, Jack's words as they left the TARDIS -"Y'know, I'm not sure about UNIT these days... Maybe there's something else you could be doing." - had stayed somewhere in the back of Martha's mind and now seemed to echo over and over. Thinking about what the Doctor would do, she became less and less happy with the General in charge of the division… One thing became perfectly clear: This wasn't what she'd signed up for and a change was in order!

*NOTE: The character of Martha Jones was supposed to be joining Torchwood as a more permanent figure post-Journey’s End the Doctor Who season 4 finale, however due to a production and scheduling issue, by the time they got back to the actress it had been far too long, and she had already taken another role. The character – as written – was supposed to appear not only in Torchwood: Children of Earth, but the Sarah Jane Adventures season 2 finale (a fact confirmed by Russell T. Davies himself).

Personality:
A person who has seen more in her short life than most do in multiple lifetimes, Martha Jones can safely say that she is – at the heart of it all – a champion. Someone who has – as many other Companions have – found herself in life or death situations, all from a simple choice of taking a man in a blue box up on his offer of a trip, she has proven herself to be not only intelligent and loyal, but quick on her feet, tactical and willing/able to see things that other people may not. Martha is very much a Doctor’s doctor (and has been called such!), calling things as she sees them without being overly sugarcoating. One could chalk such things up to her natural bedside manner.

Full Name: Dustin 'Waldo' Brooks
Called By: Dustin,
Age: Nineteen
Canon: http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Ninja_Storm
History: http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Dustin_Brooks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Power_Rangers_Dino_Thunder_episodes (only 31 and 32 are relevant episodes to Dustin)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Power_Rangers_Ninja_Storm_episodes
Personality: To put Dustin's personality bluntly, he's a people person. Overly cheerful, he's as friendly as someone can be saving the world. He is the "comic book geek" of the Wind Rangers, and was a fan of previous Rangers, who were considered urban legend, visible when they are first given morphers and he is the first to morph and (in turn) show Shane and Tori how to morph. He is somewhat naive and gullible as he has been used by one of Lothor's nieces Marah, but still retains his good natured outlook on life. Dustin has a bit of sympathy for Marah as they are both over looked by their colleagues and consider stupid by the others. Dustin actually will try to cheer up anyone down in the dumps, even if that person happens to be an enemy. He is very close to fellow Rangers Tori and Shane, having been childhood friends with both of them. Despite this, others tend to look down on him being a complete goofball and even a fool as stated by the Rangers' enemy Lothor. Dustin takes everything in stride however, and very few things bother him for very long. What he lacks in perspective or smarts, he makes up for it in heart. Dustin believes that most people are generally good and trustworthy, even if their previous actions might have you look otherwise he feels that there's good in almost everyone.

However if his trust is betrayed, Dustin has a tendancy to second guess himself particularly if his friends tend to doubt him. He also is very close to his father Jake, claiming that he taught him everything he knows about racing and motorcross. He also doesn't see anything wrong with using his own powers with helping non-Ranger friends such as his boss Kelly when they are in trouble. He firmly believes that his greatest ninja skill is his instinct. His bad side tends to rub off on the fact that he can be too trusting, which can backfire on him. He also likely has a problem with people never taking him seriously, but at his heart he's a kind hearted person who just tries to do the right thing.

Dustin even though most onlookers consider him too flakey or irresponsible to be dependable for anything, particularly as a Ranger he has the utmost faith in himself and the people who know him. Confidant without being cocky most times, Dustin is the kind of guy who's easy to warm up to. He describes himself as the 'mellow reflective dude' in the opening episode and even when faced with trouble or seeing someone else in trouble he's the first to help others no matter if it's a friend or a stranger regardless of the consequences. This can backfire on him frequently and often does as once Dustin stopped to help a passing couple with their car despite being told if they(Dustin, Tori and Shane) were late once more they'd be expelled from the Ninja Academy.

Because of Dustin's seemingly lack of responsibility his fellow Rangers tend to treat at arms length sometimes because he tends to trust those he should not be trusted. However Dustin always tries to do the right things, even if he can be very spontaneous and doesn't use his mind at first glance he will stick by his friends and those he cares for quite a long time.
3 Interesting Character Facts:
1. While featured very little in series, Dustin is very close to his father. Claiming that he 'taught Dustin everything he knows' about motorcross.
2. Dustin appears to have a soft spot for girls, whether it's his teammate Tori or someone who he really shouldn't trust like his old enemy Marah. He can't bear to see them upset.
3. He deeply admires superheroes in general and the Power Rangers in particular, idolizing them. He is simple in his desire to want to do some good.

Powers:
Dustin has a few abilities of note. He has been trained at the Wind Ninja Academy to have earth-based powers, primarily the ability to travel and attack underground as well as to shoot yellow energy from his hands. (which is concentrated Earth power, as far as I can tell) The latter ability doesn't appear to be too destructive as a fellow Ranger (or anyone with powers really) can easily counter it as it's not exactly subtle. However, to a non-powered this attack can extremely painful, likely capable of broken bones at the very least.

Dustin, like all ninja academy students has a power called 'Ninja Streak' which allows him to move at blinding speeds alibeit in the form of a yellow streak across the landscape. It is a form of travel not a combat power, and he is able to do said power in and out of Ranger form. His primary ability is to transform into the Yellow Wind Ranger by saying 'Ninja Storm, Ranger form' and in that form he can trigger earthquakes with his Lion Hammer, split into two fighters, and even travel and attack underground. To activate his Ranger powers he raises his Wind Morpher to the sky, says the above words and is transformed. The device is mostly gold and black colored, with his yellow Power Disc which has the insignia of the lion. The suit can be removed by saying 'power down' which reverts him to civilain clothes, or 'ninja form' which reverts Dustin to his ninja clothes.
Special Skills: He is a skilled mechanic with motorbikes and cycles as he works in an extreme sports store in his canon.
What is your character's comm icon and why? It likely would be the chest symbol on his Ranger suit which resembles a lion's head. As for why, being a Ranger means the world to him which gives him a small degree of self worth. Before finding out he (and his two friends Tori and Shane) was destined to be Rangers, he thought it was just dumb luck that if they weren't late like usual they wouldn't even be Power Rangers.
Anything else?: Is there a chance Dustin could have his Lion Zord? (basically a giant robot lion detailed in yellow and blue. There's a turbine where the lion's mane would be.)

Writing Samples:
ONE sample may be a link to the test drive for this game, but you may be asked to provide more if it is not considered sufficient. Anything you write for this sample is not considered canon, so we gently suggest not writing your 'waking up' in this game as each will customized to each character.

Also note: If you wish to have unique waking experience (please see "How will my character arrive?" in the FAQ), please write the beginning of that scenario as one of your samples.

Action Tag Sample: [While not nearly as good as Cam when it came to technology, Dustin was able to figure out how to use this device he had awakened up with.]

Okay, whoever sent me to this place... Dude, could you sent me back? I was in something really important. Because man this is pretty weird. The last thing I remember is... uh oh. Where's my buds? Dude. So not cool to bring me here away from my friends. Oh, whoever sees this I'm Dustin.

[Way to prioritize, Dustin.]

If you see them let me know, okay? Shane's my best bud. He's usually in red as well as being the risk taker. Tori is a blond girl, kind of bossy, and scary at times. If you've seen them, let me know all right? Later! I'm going to go check this place out.
Third Person Prose Sample:

(Unique waking up experience go!)

Dustin may not have been the smartest Power Ranger around but even he knew when something went weird. Case in point: waking up in his ninja gear aboard the cockpit of his giant robot lion Zord was definitely a new experience for him. Hastily, he jumped out of (and on the roof of) said vehicle and looked around hoping to find some people. The first thing he noticed was that the Lion Zord looked to be suffering damage from some battle but from what, Dustin hadn't the slightest clue.

Deciding to check if there was any logs left in the Zord's computers, he went back in. "Man, what a mess. Too bad Cam wasn't here... Or Hayley. They probably could figure this computer stuff out." Dustin tried looking through the Zord's logs as best he could: afterall, he was no tech guy just the motorcross guy. After a few minutes, Dustin gave up on the logs not able to figure them out. After all the last thing he remembered was that he was fighting Kelzaks and monsters with Blue Dino Ranger Ethan and then... nothing.

He really had no clue how he ended up on his Zord with his ninja gear on. "Man, this is what I call weird. No Tori or Shane. No Cam, no Blake or Hunter. Not even the Dino Rangers are here as far as I know. I've got to find someone to help me out."

Size:
Typical Crew Size: One person/one pilot.
Powered By: Whatever that zords are powered by. Seruously, I have no idea how it works other than it's state of the art technology.
Weaponry: Its mane is a superpowered turbine capable of creating a tornado as well as stamping its feet into the ground to create a small earthquake. It can also tackle it's opponents.
Special Abilities: The Lion Zord (along with the Red Ranger's Hawk Zord and Blue Ranger's Dolphin Zord) can combine to create the Storm Megazord. Lion forms most of the body of the giant robot, while Dolphin creates the missing arm and hawk creats the head of the Megazord.

What is your character's claim on this ship?: In the Power Rangers' home universe, each colored Power Ranger is assigned a Zord. In Dustin's Brooks case it was the Lion Zord.
Anything Else?: Nothing I think.

Character Info:

Full Name: Doctor John Robert Crichton, Jr.
Called By: Crichton, or if someone's being nice, John
Age: 34
Canon: Farscape (found here)
History: Here. I'm taking him from post-miniseries, without the wormhole tech in his brain.

Personality: John Crichton is a man perpetually out of his own depth. He seems to survive on luck and a certain stubborn inability to accept his circumstances. He is fiercely loyal to his friends and loved ones, to the point of occasionally pulling a gun on people no matter their status (he's done it to people with a status just beneath gods) if they so much threaten to hurt one hair on his adopted crew's head. His rage is at its most explosive if someone should come between him and his family, as even above his high morals, they come first.

While intelligent (he was once a respected particle physicist before getting shot into uncharted territory), he tends to brute-force his way through situations more than try to think them out. Part of this is because he just feels it's the easier way, and the other part is that when he's tried subterfuge, it's usually ended with him getting captured and either tortured or held hostage in some way. He also hates being used, which usually ends with him trying to do something unpredictable or (in one particular case) using mutually-assured destruction to get everyone to accept his demands.

When not backed up against a wall, Crichton is a snarky but upbeat guy who will make comments about the situation to his heart's content. He will also nickname most of his friends and enemies, a move that could be seen as either derisive or endearing towards the people he uses them on. He tends to make light of a great many situations and even when faced with threats, he'll respond first with deadpan comments and jokes.

Crichton has a very low tolerance for BS, sometimes bordering on nonexistent. When he finally has enough or gets sick of being jerked around, he's been known to fly into emotional outbursts somewhere along a spectrum from "crazy" to "explosively angry". While this doesn't happen often, when it does, he can get violent. For the most part, he does try to keep this under control.

3 Interesting Character Facts:
1. Graduated from MIT
2. Has a love for large, bombastic classical pieces (he once named a service robot 1812 after programming it to play the "1812 overture"
3. Is a huge film and TV nerd, even despite being lost in several different uncharted galaxies

Powers: None

Special Skills: Pistols, fighting, technical/repair work, and a knowledge of particle and theoretical physics. Also has a decent tolerance to pain from all the torture and interrogation over the years.

What is your character's comm icon and why? A wormhole. Because it is irrevocably tied to him in so many ways For example
Anything else?:Nnope, can't think of it.

Writing Samples:

Action Tag Sample:
[Crichton paces around the medbay, his rage barely boiling over. Finally he kicks a wall. The sound reverberates around the room] Okay, John, you're trapped in a medical center miles away from everything you know, but is it really so bad? You've managed to survive. You know your wife and kid are probably going to be okay, even if Aeryn is going to rip apart the universe looking for you. [He laughs, the sound a little pathetic] Yeah. Everyone in the Uncharted Territories
may die and your wife's going to be waging a one-woman war. You're really good at this whole "cheer the hell up" thing. [He slumps back against the wall] Come on. You used to be good at this kind of thing. [Crichton finally closes his eyes and sighs] So think, John. Think of something good.

Third Person Prose Sample:
John Crichton wasn't having a good day. He was hungover, pretty sure someone had taken his pulse pistol, and light hurt his eyes in a way that made him nostalgic for his glory days. He'd have lashed out, but hitting things wasn't getting him anywhere, and he didn't have the tools to fix anything. He wanted to fix things, he could see the areas where he could actually do repairs, but there was no way for him to do them. He'd been frustrated for at least a full day now, though time moved weird here. At least back on Moya, he'd had some way to tell (even if it had taken him four days to figure out how to use the clock in his room). There had to be something he could do...he began to pace, and a plan began to formulate. He could just rewire things randomly, but that might end with him being sucked out an airlock. So he took a piece of chalk out of his pocket and began to sketch equations. Maybe he'd find some way out if he just figured out any of the variables. Plans for wiring started to form, little things he noticed. Maybe if he were able to figure out what he needed, he'd be able to figure out how to work around it. After all, this wasn't the first time he was stuck somewhere, right?

Character Info:

Full Name: M’gann M’orzz

Called By: Megan Morse, or Miss Martian

Age: physically and mentally appears to be 16 but due to differences between human and Martian biology is chronologically 48

Canon: Young Justice tv series (Pulled from the end of the first season)

History: http://youngjustice.wikia.com/wiki/Miss_Martian#History (Note: I am taking her from the end of the first season so please ignore anything dated after December 2011)

Personality: The first impression M’gann makes on most people is that of a bubbly young woman. She is friendly to almost everyone she meets and will go out of her way to befriend people. When placed on a team M’gann went out of her way to try and connect with each individual member. She takes great pleasure in helping her friends and will go out of her way to be useful. M’gann is also extremely optimistic about life believing that most problems can be solved easily and that people are basically good. This Pollyanna like nature often annoys the more dour members of her team. Being new to Earth and human culture she is enthusiastic about each new experience and views the Earth as sort of a wonderland. This is because when M’gann was a child on Mars she watched broadcasts of a cheesy 1950s sitcom and believed that the characters portrayed were typical humans. As a result her main role model was a TV cheerleader.

While her cheerfulness can be pleasant it can also make M’gann very naïve. The root of her naivety is her belief that like in a sitcom all problems have simple solutions, and once dealt with are solved forever. When her friends fight M’gann will often jump in the middle and try to solve their problem, not realizing the depth of the situation. Since she believes she can help people she often gets involved in situation in which she is not welcome. Because of her naivety and optimism she takes setbacks very hard, often feeling as if the world is crumbling around her. These same traits, however also help her to get back up and keep trying to solve her problems.

While on the surface M’gann seems almost excessively cheerful, deep down she is actually very insecure. M’gann is in reality a white Martian and her true form looks monstrous. She fears that if anyone knows about this she will be shunned on Earth just as she was on Mars. Whenever M’gann makes a mistake she beats herself up over it and views it not as an error but as a failure on her part. To avoid criticism M’gann will try to impress everyone she meets giving her a teacher’s pet vibe. M’gann’s need for acceptance will sometimes make her go against her better judgments in order to not offend a teammate. Her fear of rejection can cause M’gann to act rashly she once mind wiped a villain who threatened to reveal her true form to her team.

Re: Miss Martian | Young Justice part 2

[personal profile] hello_mgann 2013-02-19 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
3 Interesting Character Facts:
1. M’gann based her human appearance upon the main character in a sitcom.
2. Once Miss Martian was able to use her transformation powers to alter her blood in order to supply a transfusion to a dying child.
3. According to the Martian Manhunter, if trained properly M’gann could be one of the most powerful psychics in the world.

Powers: M’gann has a number of powers thanks to her Martian biology, however due to her age many of them come with limitations. To begin with M’gann has limited shape shifting abilities, she is able to change her form to match that of another person however she finds it difficult to assume male forms. This ability also allows her to camouflage herself by blending in with her surroundings, this does not render her invisible but simply harder to notice. M’gann also possesses a limited amount of super strength. Her strength is about double that of an average human.

M’gann’s main powers are her mental. She has strong telepathic abilities, and is able to easily read the surface thoughts of any being near her. She considers this rude however and abstains from doing so unless the situation is dire. She can also probe a person’s mind for deeper thoughts though this requires some effort. M’gann often uses her telepathic abilities to allow her team to communicate without speaking during missions, setting up a sort of psychic radio. Her psychic abilities also include telekinesis and she is easily able to lift household objects using her mind. However if her concentration is broken while using telekinesis she will drop any object she is levitating. While her Martian biology gives her power it also comes with an extreme weakness to intense heat and fire, exposure to which weakens her physically and eventually will kill her.

Special Skills: Miss Martian is a skilled cook and baker.

What is your character's comm icon and why? Her Comm icon is a picture of Mars, her home planet

Writing Samples:
Action Tag Sample:

[Miss Martian is standing in the training room of the mount, as her mentor looks on]

So learning these moves should help me if I ever need to fight in close quarters?

[Miss Martian looks at her mentor nervously. Her mentor only nods.]

Well Alright, I’ll try it, I mean I do want to help the team in any way I can.

[She begins to perform a Martial Arts kata. It goes smoothly at first but after a few moves M’gann steps incorrectly and trips onto her back.]

Ouch. Are you sure this is something I should be doing, don’t the others usually handle the more personal fighting? I mean what use am I if we have Superboy on our team?

[Her mentor looks disapprovingly at M’gann making her break eye contact and look at her feet]

I know what the point of this exercise is. I’m sorry I’ll get it eventually I just don’t understand why I can’t do it.

[Looking down at the worn martial arts manual M’gann wrinkles her brow in frustration. She perks up upon noticing something she had previously missed.]

Oh Hello Megan, this says turn clockwise not counter clockwise, there’s my problem. Right I think I can get this let’s go again.

Third Person Prose Sample:
It had taken M’gann longer than she would have liked to find the things she needed. The oven alone had taken a week to figure out even with help from some of the others. After that she had to track down suitable ingredients, which was harder than it sounded. She had spent nearly a month performing menial tasks around the station to earn enough credits to buy everything she needed. But now the wait was over and as she mixed the chocolate chips into the dough M’gann began to smile. Baking had always held a sort of meditative quality for the young Martian, and today was no different. As she put the tray into the oven, M’gann thought of all the people she had met the past few weeks. Most of them seemed nice enough and she had considered a few of them friends. However some of the Station’s residents seemed a bit unfriendly. M’gann chalked this up to the odd locations and the odd circumstances of arrival. M’gann frowned at this knowing that teamwork was going to be vital if everyone was going to be stuck here. Someone would have to bring everyone closer together. And if these cookies turned out as tasty as they usually did, M’gann thought, that someone would be her.

Character Info:

Full Name:Dr. Alexander J. Mercer
Called By:Alex Mercer
Age: Looks 29, acts it most of the time...
Canon:Prototype--wiki link: Here!
History: The wiki is very useful, here’s the very basics. Alex was a researcher of a weaponised super-virus. Then there was an incident, and an outbreak in Manhattan of this virus. Alex wakes up in the morgue, with no memories of who he is, or how he got there. He also has these odd and disturbing new powers and abilities--and is going to use them to figure out what happened. He unravels a conspiracy involving the former corporation he worked for, and a black-ops group of the government, that was involved in creating the Blacklight virus, and now is trying to clean it up. Blackwatch (said black-ops group) will clean up the outbreak by ANY means necessary.

Alex goes on a roaring rampage of revenge to uncover the truth, wishes he hadn’t found out (for one--he IS the virus, the real Alex Mercer died, and the virus copied and reanimated him on the cellular level.), and tries to atone for his and his progenitors mistakes. While stopping Blackwatch from its extreme actions, and then cleaning up the infected-outbreak in Manhattan.

I plan to take him from the end of the first game--and do not consider Prototype 2 to be part of the canon. I can provide more details, as needed.

Personality: Alex is a cold, calculating, predatory man. He was a borderline-sociopath, due to his upbringing but he is developing a conscience from the things he’s had to face and do, in Manhattan. He has a strong protective instinct for his sister Dana, and does seem to recognize a basic right vs. wrong, but isn’t afraid of extreme measures if it is necessary. He tends to be quiet and distant, broody, but if something piques his interest he’ll investigate it and go after it.

3 Interesting Character Facts: 1.) Alex, as he is now is actually a BETTER man than he was before, in his old life. 2.) He still hears and remembers everyone he’s consumed 3.) Alex as he currently is, has never been seen without his hood up.

Powers:Ok, this is going to be a long section...
Alex has numerous powers and abilities, given he isn’t human. He’s at his base, a human-form capable of shapeshifting himself and appendages of his body via red-and-black viral biomass. As part of his human base, he is a blacklight infected being, which conveys enhanced speed, enhanced agility, enhanced senses, enhanced strength, and superhuman endurance . (He can run with and surpass most cars, moves like spider-man on and over anything in his way, can hear through insulated buildings, punch through a 2 foot steel door or tear apart a human easily, and withstand almost any attack--as his body has no weak-spots like vital organs anymore--he doesn’t tire.)

In addition to that base-infected, he has a healing factor--where he’ll regenerate from injuries--the more damage, the more he has to regenerate, but it will take a lot to take him down. (He was in the aftermath blast of a nuke, and regenerated from non-descript piles of bio-mass, and a crow, in a matter of minutes.) This can be further sped up by ‘consuming’ beings--as in, absorbing them via biomass into himself. This will restore his health, but also can allow him to gain skills and knowledge he wouldn’t otherwise have--such as how to pilot a helicopter, or the location of someone’s secret base if he consumes someone who knows where it is.

This leads into the shapeshifting--Alex can shapeshift via viral biomass his limbs and body into a variety of weapons. These include claws (4 talon like blades at the end of each hand), a blade (his entire arm becomes a large scything blade), enhancing the muscles on his arms for more physical strength and power, a long-tendril with blade on the end that he can use as a ranged weapon known as the whipfist, a shield that is a form of hardened biomass overtaking his arm, moving large portions of biomass to his hands only to gain “hammerfists” that basically act like “hulk-smash!”, and an armored form whereby plates of hardened black biomass engulf his form. Each power and ability has weaknesses and strengths, and is detailed in his journal bio. In addition, he can shapeshift himself to look like anyone else, voice included. He also can focus to change his eyes to register the thermal spectrum, or the infected (those infected with blacklight, but it could be modded), at the cost of his other enhanced senses.

Special Skills: He probably has basic cooking and cleaning skills, as he was the parental figure for his sister Dana growing-up, and was on his own a lot. He has a doctorate in genetics from Columbia University, and a genius level intellect. Since then he’s gained abilities that include black-ops and military weapons training, piloting of APCs, Tanks, and helicopters, and limited sabotage abilities.

What is your character's comm icon and why?A dark red-and-glowing-white biohazard symbol. Alex was a head researcher in genetics in his former life, working on a weaponised super-virus...and well, now he IS a virus. It fits, and is currently his journal’s default icon.

Anything else?: I know he’s an incredibly powerful character, and I’m willing to have him ‘limited’ in some ways if needed. He is often angry and driven, and a solid-anti-hero, but I also feel he’d be useful around the station, and it’d help make him more ‘human’, and further this developing conscience he has. In particular, sitting around waiting isn’t his style--so I see him being more than willing to try and get into areas that are dangerous for others to go (like the gardens) or explore the planets. He has yet to meet something that can effectively take him down for good, and he’s smart and very combat-capable in a variety of situations.

Writing Samples:

Suggestion for “waking up”--It wouldn’t be the first time Alex has woken up on a slab in a medical area (last time it was a morgue, about to be dissected). It wouldn’t exactly make him happy though, especially if people are trying to examine him. There’d also be the question of how he got there, considering he survived and regenerated from the nuclear blast-radius. I did want to throw this out as a suggestion though. ^^

Action Tag Sample:
My Test drive-Link http://thestation-ooc.dreamwidth.org/471.html?thread=70871#cmt70871 It starts as more prose-writing, but I switch to match my fellow-player’s tag style shortly thereafter.

Third Person Prose Sample:

Well....honestly, he was as surprised as anyone that he’d survived the blast. Helicopters were fast, but he’d taken the warhead far enough out to avoid damaging Manhattan. In some ways, he supposed he couldn’t fault General Randall for his methods--nuking the city would ensure the infection was stopped. Too bad it meant all those deaths, including Alex’s own--and he wasn’t letting that happen.

Not after everything he’d survived.

Rebuilding a nervous system was a pain--literally. But he was alive. So now, he was left to try and figure out his place. He wasn’t human...but he heard them. Everyone he’d consumed, in his head, as they died. So what did that mean? What was left for him? Even if “Alex” was just a role, a disguise, it still felt real. It was the only thing he really felt comfortable with.

Besides, he still had his own sins, and Alex Mercer’s to atone for. He’d found everyone responsible, unraveled the conspiracy...so now it was time for clean-up. There was still an outbreak to deal with, or it’d spread eventually. What good would he have done in saving Manhattan from being made glass, if he just let it fall to mindless rabid zombies due to a virus?

Ironically, the thought made him smirk slightly--he’d started this, after all. He might as well finish it. Who better, than the first victim of the new strain. After that, Alex would figure out the rest.

More info on him if needed is in his journal.

Full Name: Anthony Edward Stark AKA Iron Man
Called By: Tony Stark/Iron Man
Age: 47
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
History: Here  Or because write ups are fun....

Tony Stark was born with a platinum spoon in his mouth to genius and philanthropic parents. He has never known anything outside of luxury, minus a small stint in Afghanistan as a prisoner of war, and it shows in the way he carries himself in public. He is likely one of the smartest men on Earth. Forced into boarding school to help contain his genius, Tony was building working engines before he reached double digits in age, attended MIT at fifteen, holds two doctorates, one in physics and one in engineering. Though he did inherit his wealth and the family company, Stark Industries, it was not out of sheer nepotism but a genuine ability to not only invent and adapt new technologies, but handle the complex world of corporate moguls.

After being targeted by a terrorist cell in Afghanistan (directed to do so by a longer term family friend and business partner) and nearly killed by one of his own weapons, Tony was taken into captivity for three months with several pieces of shrapnel buried in his chest.  Through the help of a fellow prisoner, Tony was able to survive with a magnet fitted into his torn apart chest cavity to keep the metal from reaching his heart.  Using technology pioneered by his own father, Tony was able to create a miniature version of an arc reactor power source, a powerful electromagnet, to keep him alive.  Afterward, Tony devized an escape plan by building a crude armor plated suit to battle his way to safety.

Once free, Tony immediately switched his company's focus away from weaponry and declared that Stark Industries would not longer design or manufacture them.  This distressed his share holders and his business partner, who later tried to kill Tony by stealing the reactor from his chest.

Feeling the need to give back after his weapons caused so much damage to civilians, Tony invented a new version of his metal armor suit, streamlining it and making it able to fly and interface directly with an AI supercomputer butler that already helped him to run his home and other aspects of his life.  He dubbed the power armor Iron Man and used it to successfully keep the world safe from terrorists.

Unfortunately, the constant use of the Iron Man suit and his own rigorous lifestyle was too much for the arc reactor to sustain safely and the power cells that Tony had been using to keep the electromagnet running was also poisoning him to the point of near death.  It was during this time that he took up drinking heavily and became more of a menace than a super hero.

After a visit from Nick Fury, who would eventually become the director of the Avengers Initiative that Tony would later join, Tony was able to discover a way to reverse and cure his illness and developed a new element to keep his reactor running safely.

Tony Stark became the biggest leader and provider of green energy, building a massive skyscraper in New York powered off of an arc reactor located in the bay.  He had just finished moving in when Fury decided to recruit him for the Avengers after an alien by the name of Loki stole a top secret energy source called the Tesseract.  Tony, along with other  typically loner super heroes and misfits, managed to defeat an alien army called forth by Loki by working as a team for the first time in their lives.  When the Army released a nuclear weapon to destroy the aliens, and all of Manhattan, Tony directed the missile up into space, knowing it would likely kill him.

After delivering the payload to the mother ship and losing all power and life support in the Iron Man suit, Tony blacks out in the depths of space.  He knows he's potentially saved the day (take that, Captain America!) but he's pretty sure he's toast.  Cold, icy, space toast.

Tony Stark | Marvel Cinematic Universe | Reserved - Part II

[personal profile] starkingenuity 2013-03-17 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality:
Tony's intellect is at savant levels when it comes to being a technopath. He can literally McGuyver tech out of primitive tools and scrap metal. Unfortunately, he also knows he's a genius and it comes across in his ego and personality. Tony Stark is primarily self-motivated, a master manipulator, often times outwardly cold, uncaring, and extremely narcissistic. Though he can be personable to others, more often than not he finds pleasure in manipulating situations, out talking or ignoring opponents, and simply believes he is always entitled to get what he wants. There is a reason his file, compiled by the government agency SHIELD, states that he does not get along well with others.

Tony does not have friends. Though he recently started a relationship with long term personal assistant turned CEO of Stark Industries, Pepper Potts, and has a very friendly and amicable relationship with Rhodes, his contact with the contracting department of the US Army for whom he use to design weapons for and Happy Hogan, his driver and boxing partner, Tony is still a womanizer at heart and has trouble relating to common people (or, truly, anyone that isn't himself). In fact, most of his 'friendships' with these people are based on a take rather than give relationship. They are fundamentally assistants and outsiders and despite genuinely caring for them, he still treats them like help more often than not. The one exception to this is Pepper, who has learned to get around Tony's ego enough to keep him in line as much as possible, and whom he has come to trust after the betrayal of long time family friend and father figure Obidiah Stane. Tony also built himself various AI and robotic companions, most notably in the form of his integrated butler program JARVIS and a sort of pet-like apprentice he calls DUM-E, to keep him company when he tires of people.

After the accident that resulted in the need to embed and electromagnet in his chest to keep him alive, three months of captivity in the Middle East where he was forced to manufacture weapons for terrorists, and a daring escape using a mechanized suit, Tony's personality changed slightly to include a new found desire to expand his already blossoming god complex by helping to protect the world through more peaceful measures. This led him to develop a new technology and craft a super hero persona called Iron Man. Once again, however, his ego stepped in and though most heroes assume secret identities, Tony embraced his role as Iron Man, leading to rivalries with the US government and other manufacturing moguls. Coupled with a slow self poisoning of irradiated materials to keep the reactor in his chest functioning and scotch to help him cope with his high stress life, Tony's self destructiveness had taken a turn for the worse until his genius once more uncovered a safer method of energy to keep himself, and Iron Man, going.

Being part of the Avengers Initiative has taught him better how to rely on others and how to work towards a common goal as part of a team. However, Tony is still deep down a brilliant, troubled virtuoso who grew up believing his father did not love him, has trouble trusting anyone but himself, and has become a functioning alcoholic in his day to day life.

Tony Stark's biggest fear has nothing to do with being alone or penniless as one might expect from a playboy billionaire, but rather, being a failure scares him the most. He is an adrenaline junky, nearly suicidal in his attempts to prove himself, and though he claims not to care about the opinions of others, it is extremely obvious that he desires praise for his abilities and his creations.

3 Interesting Character Facts:
* Tony is a germ-a-phob of the highest degree.  Shaking hands means he likes you or has anti-bacterial hand gel in his pocket.  Don't even try to hand him anything!
* Tony's heart can't work on it's own thanks to a small reactor being implanted in his chest to keep shrapnel from worming it's way to his death.  He now uses it as proof that he does, in fact, have a heart and, more recently, as proof that he and the Iron Man suit are one in the same.
* Tony is a scrappy fighter.  He takes boxing lessons regularly but he's too undisciplined physically to be much good at hand to hand combat.  Without the suit and the gizmos attached to it, he's just an average guy, physically at least.

Powers: Tony Stark is one of the world's most intelligent people. His IQ listed as well above genius level. He is an inventive mechanical engineering prodigy, able to not only create new technology, but perfect or alter anything else he might across. He has a remarkable ingenuity when it comes to tactical situations, he is business savvy, and a master negotiator.

Without his suit, Tony is otherwise a normal human being in regard to physical speed and strength. The only exception to this is the arc reactor embedded in his chest. It acts as a pace maker and an electromagnet to keep the shrapnel in his chest from reaching his heart and killing him. It should be noted that as of now, the arc reactor currently runs off of a new element created by Howard and Tony Stark and runs almost perpetually. It can conceivably be used to power other electronics and can be used as a backup system to the reactors built into the Iron Man armors.

As Iron Man, in the power suit, Stark is able to lift over 100 tons, move at mach 8 speeds and fly. His suit is fitted out with a self-contained life-support system so he can work underwater or in space. It can also shield him against radiation and produce a magnetic field to push or pull metal objects. It has an on board computer that allows him to connect via satellite and wifi, make phone calls, follow GPS uplinks, and tap into communications. By directly interfacing with JARVIS, he can get up to date battle information and follow his own biological readings. The stabilizing jets in the palms of each gauntlet can also act as energy weapons, as can the repulsor weapon on his chest. He has a series of flares that he can fire from his shoulders and several plasma beam weapons. A highly detailed explanation of the Mark VII armor can be found here.

Special Skills: Tony can make killer omelets, hack into databases for the fun of it, and drive cars really, really fast.

What is your character's comm icon and why? The arc reactor....  Tony sees himself literally as being part of the Iron Man armor and the arc reactor in his chest is one of the ways he interfaces with the suit.

Anything else?: Because I think this will be amusing, the Iron Man suit could literally be considered a ship.  The Mark VII that Tony is wearing is heavily damaged from the fight with the Chitauri and from floating in space for awhile.  Could the Station maybe scoop him up from space before he suffocates?

Full Name:Namikaze Naruto
Called By:Naruto
Age: 16, mental age debatable
Canon: Naruto Manga Universe Canon
History: Character History , however he's being plucked from around Chapter 613 of the Manga
Personality: Naruto is one of the more idealistic people one might meet in the multiverse. He's got a big heart, and even bigger guts when it comes to taking on things that should honestly make him run.

However, Naruto is more than just the smiling idiot that most people think he is. He's a young man of deep feelings, and hides much of them behind the mask of being a dead last. He learned in his youth it was better to look like an idiot and let others underestimate you. He loves with all his heart, he fights with every fiber of his being, and he speaks from the depths of his soul, when the chips are down.

He does have his fun loving side, being abit of a prankster and smartass, and has no problem putting obvious perverts in their place with his personal brand of "anti-pervert" techniques. But he also loves the flashy and destructive techniques in combat as much as any other red blooded humanoid male.
3 Interesting Character Facts:
1: Naruto lacks booksmarts but he more than makes up with them with on the fly tactical thinking. His ideas in the middle of a fight keep everyone off balance and you'd never expect some of the things he comes up with.

2: Naruto has a thing for smart girls. He'd never be able to explain it or admit to it, but he considers girls to be smarter than guys in most things and thus also finds an attraction to a girl with a brain.

3: Naruto learns best by doing. His short attention span does not allow for book learning for hours on end. But give him a physical task that needs to be done and he will drill himself into the ground day in and day out to get it right.
Powers: Access to Chakra allowing him to use various shinobi techniques, demonic youki provided by the Kyuubi no Kitsune, training in use of nature chakra, negative emotion sensing.
Special Skills: Gardening, Scrounging, Infiltration, Stealth, Thrown Weapons, Trap Making
What is your character's comm icon and why? Naruto uses the Konoha Leaf symbol in his personal colors of orange and black, letting him continue to show loyalty to his village but with his own flair.
Anything else?: Bow weep grana weep nini bom *hands them an energon goodie*

Writing Samples:
Action Tag Sample: Test Drive
Third Person Prose Sample:Looking at him, everyone assumes he's a clueless idiot, a child playing at being a shinobi. Even those that knew him, they saw the heart of old, the never-gving-up spirit, and the naive dead last who needed to come to grips with reality. And he was all of these things, but today he was different. He'd seen those running around doing their needed duties toward The Honoring. Today, Naruto had forsaken all of his showy garb, wearing standard mourning attire bearing the symbols of Konoha and the Uzumaki clan, missing his forehead protector causing his blonde locks to fall around his head. He went to the small shrine in the village, thankful that since this wasn't Konoha he wouldn't be thrown out or attacked for being there, he slowly lit incense and prayed for several individuals - his father, Sarutobi Hiruzen, Haku, Zabuza, Chiyo-baa, and Jiraiya. He hoped their spirits were well, and for all but Hiruzen and Jiraiya he prayed that their afterlives were going well. A few moments of thought and he decided to include the two perverts in his wishes. He was still of a mixed mind for the two of them.

Once done he then prayed for those whom he'd left behind in his timeline hoping that they were alright, and those he'd met and knew about in this place including all of his extended family. This was a prayer of hope, of wondering if he truly deserved the family that he now had, and of the possibilities of the future. "Gama of the Mountain, help me protect my precious people, from the threats from without... and within." He clapped twice to finish his prayer, and with an offering of a bowl of ramen with the chopsticks over it, he stepped out and looked into the street, wondering what would come next.
